Rainbow Bakery Ltd — Restaurant in Calgary

If there's any spot in Calgary that's an institution, for me, Rainbow Bakery is it. I have no idea when it was opened, but it's been around since at least my junior high days. I came here to buy tasty Chinese baked goods as a kid and now I'm bringing my own kid here.

Everything is made and baked on-site throughout the day. You can see the owners working away in the back and smell the product as it's being baked. I haven't tried any of their new packaged products which seem to consist of a wide range of cookies, but all their buns and egg tarts are just as good as I remember them to be. It beats that factory baked stuff that's on T&T's shelves nowadays by a very long mile.

Been going here since I was a kid. So, over a decade. When you first enter, you will see some trays and tongs for you to pick your selection. I often buy a few extra buns to eat as a midnight snack. In particular, I love their coconut creme buns, but they tend to run out quick! I believe it's baked during certain times, so best bet is to ask. The creme has just the right amount of 'dairy' flavour, but not overly powering. Big fan of their hot dog buns too, but that's mainly cause I like hotdog buns in general. This is the bakery of my childhood. I used to come here for fresh buns and my favourite was the hot dog bun with the mayo! Even after it's cooled down it still tastes delicious. I remember the days they used to be cash only but they do have a machine for debit and credit now!! They also have a bunch of cute new cookies packaged like cute characters/animals. I usually would think twice before buying a single cookie for over $1 but the packaging with this Matcha cookie made it suddenly worth it?? Marketing at its finest.
