Went for taste of Italy supperclub. You can tell in some aspects it's definitely students, however, knowing it's students - I think it's definitely worth the money.

We had one welcome drink and some of the fruit juice mixes (strawberry/raspberry, strawberry/basil) additional drinks were $7 and had wine, cocktail, a beer, and a mock tail for $6.

They even had to go containers because it was just so much food and that was important to us to know at least our food wasn't going to waste, but we could still enjoy the full menu.

It started at 6pm with a lounge, drinks, appetizers, and piano music. Then at 7 moved to an individual table fashion (I hear all nights are different) with 5 sectioned meals. Charcuterie board (SO MUCH FOOD) Shrimp and tomato pasta (would have liked more sauce with the pasta) Lemon and blueberry Gelato (tasted like frozen lemonade) A fish in bread for what I could describe looked originally like a calzone, with a small olive and orange salad (wasn't too into the fish, I quite enjoyed the flavour profile of the salad) Tiramisu with some fruit and chocolate. (Pretty standard).

I think for $50, you get a really good amount of food - it might not be AMAZING, but my partner and I believe it was well worth the price to support a student. And we got a delicious little lemon cookie.

Took some pics but forgot halfway...

DISGUSTING – Completely Ruined My Day🤢

I was excited to try this place for the first time today, but it ended up ruining my entire experience. I ordered the Bison Burger and was immediately disappointed. When it arrived, I could smell something burned. At first, I thought it was the fries—and it likely was. They were visibly dry and overcooked, and no amount of seasoning could hide the strong burnt smell and taste. I tried to eat the ones that weren’t completely charred and used ketchup to mask the flavor, but once the ketchup ran out, I couldn't continue. It was just too unpleasant to eat.

Then I moved on to the burger. I’ve never had a bitter burger before—so I took it apart to find out why it tasted so off. The patty was severely burned and looked like someone had just scraped the charcoal off and served it anyway. The arugula was wilted and looked almost mashed, adding even more bitterness to an already awful bite.

This was honestly the worst burger I’ve ever had. I would rather eat a basic fast-food burger or even a gas station sandwich over what I was served here. It looked and tasted like it was made by an unsupervised kid. Absolutely...

SAIT’s instructional kitchen is a wonderful place for students to learn culinary arts plus hospitality and service industries. However my lunch experience was underwhelming. The food was not adequate and pricey. A $6 soup you would expect in a mug not a cardboard hospital dish. The carrot yam squash soup should have at least crackers instead of a $1.25 2-bite micro-bun! The lox & bagel was so dry the one meager side that had the cream cheese was actually cracking from dehydration! Thank goodness I could get a cup of tap water - for 15 cents… The Tastemarket decor is eclectic though the seating area looks very clinical - unless you are in the back with the faux plant wall. This appears to be the student-only area. Being an alumni and practically living at the campus restaurants and the Highwood Restaurant I expected much higher quality and better pricing. I’m not sure if I would venture my time if money for a more pricey meal if this is what a basic soup and sandwich results for $16+. The staff didn’t seem that happy though the register lady...

You order at the counter, pay and they bring the food out to your table if you are dining in. We came at lunch time and it was pretty busy. As soon as a table left, staff quickly cleaned the table and I was able to sit down. Prices are super affordable. I got the Wild sockeye salmon gravlax ploye-Buckwheat pancake, whitefish caviar, poached egg, pickled beets and it tasted awesome and only $13. My friend got the mushroom pizza and it was $14. They use to have ramen years ago too bad they dont have it on their menu anymore. Will definitely be back.
