First time trying Obanhmi, and had high hopes based on reviews. Unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations.
Parking at the Langley location can be a bit of a challenge, but we know the area so that was expected. The restaurant itself is simply furnished, with nothing special to make it stand out.
We placed a takeout order online, saved 5% (no problems applying the code at checkout), and the order was ready at the indicated time. Service was friendly.
We ordered pork spring rolls, pork salad rolls, and the following sandwiches: lemongrass chicken, honey garlic chicken and sate beef.
The spring rolls were delicious! Crispy and not overly greasy. The salad rolls were nothing special. Even the dipping sauce was not very flavourful.
We ordered all sandwiches with extra pickled veggies, no cilantro. The bread was nice and crusty, but not as special as some of the reviews make it out to be. Unfortunately, the bread to filling ratio was way off. Filling was sparse, including the pickled veggies, which we'd ordered extra of (would hate to see what it's like without the extra). To top it off, one sandwich had full cilantro, and another had obviously had the cilantro picked back off, since there were still some leftovers. In this regard the sparse filling was helpful, as I could quickly pick it all off without anyone else seeing (and getting ideas in their head that they could still taste it...). Honey garlic chicken was quite tasty, sate beef was okay with just a tiny little bit of spice, and the lemongrass chicken was rather bland and full of gristle.
Pictures are of the honey garlic chicken and sate beef (1/2 sandwich shown; full sandwich size...
Read moreWe have not been to this location for a few months but decided to go for lunch today. This used to be a great little spot to visit. Today it was awful. First off instead of taking our order the guy answered the phone and took an online order first. After that he took our order. Then we waited 15 minutes for 2 sandwiches. There was no one else in the store! Not sure if they have new management or just being cheap. Sandwiches were good but very small bun and very very little filling. A few pieces of chicken, and very little veggies. Unfortunately we will not be back. So very disappointing ! A big waste of money. There are better places on the one way to grab lunch, don’t waste your money here
As per your response I think it’s a shame you are trying to justify that putting a few pieces of meat in a bun is okay. People don’t like wasting their money and what you are saying is that we should have ordered 2 sandwiches each instead ? So spend double? A few months ago under the old management a sandwich at your restaurant was just that… a sandwich. It was enjoyable and had adequate filling, not a few stray pieces of meat and a couple of veggies. If anything please don’t try justifying this situation. Do better. If you want customers to return, give them something to...
Read moreI stopped at Obahnmi for lunch after some errands and boy am I glad I did! A cute and fresh looking little restaurant on the Fraser Hwy 1-way street in Langley, they offer delicious and filling bahn mi sandwiches, viet coffee, spring and salad rolls and delicious iced and slushy drinks!
I ordered a #1 combo, Lemongrass Chicken Bahn Mi with a Spring Roll and a passionfruit lemonade +strawberry popping pearls. The Spring Roll was sizable, hot, crispy and generously filled, it came with a small side of a dressing to dip it in that added to the flavors! The bahn mi was also generously filled and toasted so perfectly, the lemongrass chicken was tender and flavorful, and the classic veggie add ins were fresh and crisp. My passionfruit lemonade was perfectly balanced and just the right amount of tart and sweet, I added strawberry popping pearls because they are my favorite!
I spent just over 20 dollars in total (Tip included) on a delicious and very filling lunch with zero low points or regrets! 10/10 would recommend and...
