I wouldn't consider myself a fine dining connoisseur but I have visited my share of fine dining restaurants in our city, within Canada and abroad. I would like to start off by saying I do have a knack for taste and appreciating when flavors work well together. With that preface here is my review: the location; great , ambiance; great and service was good as well. Our waitress and the bartender greeted us promptly and were very welcoming. This is more of a drinking establishment so my spouse missed the mark on that one since I am pregnant. There was a very limited menu and 1/3 appetizers we wanted to try wasn't available ( Courgette Tempura). We had the 'Cripsy Potato' which were delicious and the canola sauce was great, the pickling on the potato was interesting although I couldn't have more since it acted up on my pregnancy heart burn :( Next came the Wolf Bass, I was a little disappointed in the lack of flavor and the fact that it wasn't even luke-warm, I didn't find the blue cheese complimented the dish at all. Second came the Rabbit, I was a fan of the rabbit and how it was curred but the fermentation of the cherries and parsley in particular that accompanied the dish I did not find complimented it well. Last came the Pork Rillions ( shoulder), this was our favorite entrée, full of flavor moist and definitely warm unlike the other two dishes, the Orin apple was great addition to this dish! We were advised that our dishes are more for sharing, but we didn't expect them to come one after another. We noticed the table next to us (5 ppl) also had to share each dish at a time until it was finished. This is not something I've experienced in a fine dining restaurant, I am assuming that's why our dishes came out colder then expected since we didn't want to fully finish one dish before trying a new one. Or perhaps this style of sporadic plate dining encourages drinking in between but clearly we were not in the market to try drinks due to my apparent pregnancy. I can say the prices were fair but I have had my experience at better fair priced fine dining restaurants. If I were to come back it will definitely be post baby to try the amazing drink menu which I feel most people were there to experience in the...
Read moreA friend and I went to Clementine for the first time this past week, in the evening. We were seated between two tables that were rather close together. It was quite hard to hear in there with the din of the restaurant and our noisy table neighbours. The server was kind enough to move us to a table near the window when opportunity arose.
When our server first came around to ask for our drink order we had barely just gotten the menus. It took another 10 minutes for him to come back and get our order after that. The drinks took a while to arrive after we ordered them, but that was to be expected, due to their complexity. Mine, "Caballa," was elegantly served in a whisky glass with a blackened orange. It was delightfully smoky. My friend's drink which was more tropical in nature was served in an amusing parrot mug.
Our beef shin came out first. It was served with the freshest peas, pickled carrots and buttery mushrooms - a delightful flavor combination. The sourdough rye pancake with ham was sinfully saucy with its clover honey and swiss chard. I can see why this is a staple on their menu. It was comfort food classed up.
I would go back - I would love to try the rye sourdough tartine - a dish that has been on the menu since opening, and the pork...
Read moreWe stopped by for a quick drink before our dinner reservation and were thoroughly impressed. Since it was a Wednesday evening, the bar was relatively quiet, which gave us the chance to chat with the bartender. He was incredibly friendly and took the time to walk us through the cocktail menu, offering thoughtful recommendations based on our personal preferences.
We originally planned to have just one drink, but the cocktails were so expertly crafted that we ended up ordering a second round. We tried the Los Danzantes, Patagonia, Sunomono, and Umeboshi, each one beautifully balanced, visually stunning, and aromatic. I'm not a cocktail expert, but every drink was a sensory experience. The Sunomono, in particular, stood out; its aroma immediately transported me back to my childhood summers when my (Japanese) mother would prepare sunomono at home. It was nostalgic and made me a bit giddy. 😊
The atmosphere is dark, intimate, and full of character, perfect for a relaxing evening.
My only regret is not visiting sooner. We’re already looking forward to returning and exploring more of their creative and refined...
