So here's how Farrow works: it's this narrow little shop and there are four sandwiches. The selection changes daily. One is usually vegan/vegetarian. You go in, pick one, and walk out with an amazing sandwich. And they take sandwiches VERY seriously inside and out. This one had a generous helping of thick slices of roast beef that's like an actual roast beef and not a mystery meat. It also has a horseradish aioli, pickled onions, and a nice helping of arugula. It's served on a thick, toasted fresh multigrain bread. There's also some potato chips in there for a nice salty crunch. Every element is impeccable, and they all play perfectly together and you can taste them in every bite.
They also do the same thing with baked goods, such as doughnuts, cookies and cronuts. I might detest the word cronut, but I just devoured one of theirs in a nigh feral fashion.
Prices are quite competitive with the depressing chain sub shop on the same block.
I'd give them six stars if I could since they've always taken their health and safety precautions very seriously, even in the middle of this most absolutely ignorant of COVID waves. It's good to see restaurants and cafes run by people who actually bothered to understand how it works rather than just doing the legal bare minimum and revelling in...
Read moreFarrow used to be my go-to lunch spot however these past few months I sense a decline in food quality, service and environment.
Food: The food is very hit or miss. When it’s not busy, the food is very good. During lunch hour, the food has always been messy, undercooked, and rushed. 3/5
Service: I can’t really fault the cooks because they are doing their best. But coming here anytime between 11am-1pm is a minimum 30min wait. (Mon-Fri) The lines are incredibly long and the building is quite small. Multiple times, groups of 4-5 people will go in and only 1 person will order food. Get out of line if you don’t plan on ordering! 1/5
Environment: Nothing special, going for a hipster theme. Chalk board is interesting, I do appreciate a small menu though. Eating area is very small and trying to find a clear table during lunch hours are near impossible. I find myself taking my lunch to go and bringing it back to my office 95% of the time. 2/5
Overall the prices seem average, the food and service is very hit or miss depending on the time and date. Never go if you are in a rush, you will...
Read moreYo, I love Farrow , like edmonton loves Farrow. They are FANTASTIC at what they do, however, there's a couple things that cheese me. 1.) You run a progressive, and local business. Start being progressive and pay a living wage off the bat so people don't feel the need to tip. Notwithstanding the fact that This is not a Farrow specific issue, and more so a north american wide problem, but when I'm paying $13-15/ sandwich, and then asked to tip on top of this, this leads me to believe "oh wow, maybe some of the workers aren't seeing their fair share of this." If you do pay a living wage, I certainly as a consumer have no idea of it, because it's not advertised on your job postings either. I'd imagine people wouldn't be upset in paying a bit more per sandwich if it's for the greater good of the sandwich artists well being and living. And 2) idk Really long wait today upwards of 30 min to even get my order in, pls help the Jasper Ave ppls. They're amazing, but seem short staffed, which ties back into said...
