If you’re looking for a hidden gem in the city, Hung Phat Vietnamese Restaurant is the place to go! My son and I stopped in for lunch, and while the decor is extremely bare bones—think old tables, well-worn chairs, and flooring that’s seen better decades—none of that mattered once we sat down. You don’t come here for the aesthetics; you come for the food and the incredible people.

Our waitress was an absolute delight—a true ray of sunshine. She was so kind and accommodating, taking the time to chat with every table like they were longtime friends. It’s clear this place has a loyal following, and I can see why. Her warmth and attentiveness made the whole experience feel like a visit to a family member’s kitchen.

As for the food, it was the star of the show. We started with the pork spring rolls, which were crispy, perfectly seasoned, and impossible not to devour in seconds. Then came the beef satay soup, which was thicker than I’m used to but absolutely packed with flavor—rich, a little spicy, and deeply comforting. It’s the kind of soup that could fix just about any bad day.

Hung Phat may not look like much from the outside (or inside, for that matter), but it’s a true gem. The food is incredible, the service is exceptional, and you can tell the owners genuinely care about their customers. If you’re craving delicious Vietnamese food served with kindness, this is the spot. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself becoming one of their...

I have eaten here a few times with my wife, but this week was awful. I made a complaint about the salad rolls to the waitress. They were hard, and stale. The noodles inside were not fresh. The waitress argued that they were made in the morning. I told her I was not going to eat them, and asked her to remove it from my bill. She still argued. I went to the counter to pay, then asked the woman at the counter if she removed the salad rolls. She said no, and then explained that they were made fresh in the morning. At this point, the waitress chimed in, and said "if you go to a restaurant and don't like it, you can't just choose to not pay for it." Unfortunately for this restaurant I have to disagree. I have had many good experiences in other establishments where food was comped, or taken off our bill because something wasn't right about it. I refused to pay for them. The woman reluctantly removed the salad rolls from my bill. I paid the balance, expressed my appreciation for removing it and turned to walk away. The staff then immediately started speaking another language after the transaction was complete. I can't help but think they were speaking poorly about me as I left. I will never be back to this restaurant. Worst customer service I have ever...

I came in on a very cold December night to avoid traffic that had become a parking lot. It's a small, clean, space typical of many Vietnamese restaurants. The young lady serving me was very pleasant (Jennifer, from other reviews, I believe). I noticed a soup on the menu that is not typical for Vietnamese restaurants. We all know the usual suspects - Pho, Wor Wonton, Satay Beef, Curry chicken... this one was called "#37. Thai combination". I inquired, with great interest. She told me the soup was an invention of her mom consisting of beef, chicken, shrimp, squid and mushrooms with a hot-and-sour flavour. The result: an amazing and bold new recipe with a lighter version of the traditional hot-and-sour soup with an abundance of fresh ingredients. The flavour is delightful and savoury, and comes with large shrimp, surprisingly high quality chicken, tender beef and a generous helping of tender and chewy squid morsels. Every morsel in the bowl was fresh and delicious. Based on this single bowl of soup alone, I plan to be back to explore their menu. TLDR; High quality Vietnamese with top notch service. I can't wait to take my friends here to get...

The waitress is really friendly and attentive!! For appetizers we got salad rolls and spring rolls. The spring rolls is good which has that crispy texture that the rolls have been cooked perfectly. The salad roll is good but feels like it is missing something else to give the salad roll texture or more basil taste. Nonetheless it is still good. I ordered the Vietnamese Special Rice. It comes with pork chop, steam egg and fried egg. It is an unusual dish. Normally I order the pho as it is the best pho I have taste so far. But on that month in July it was hot and I did not want to order soup on a hot day. Anyways the pork chop is cooked perfectly as well as the the fried egg. The steam egg is not the typical egg... its a fish egg loaf. It was okay even with the dipping sauce. I think I would stick with pho or another soup noodle dish. Overall the dish is okay but the pho is the best with all the condiments.
