Taste of Szechuan has always been a great place to go for hotpot. For those who indulge in getting super spicy 🌶️ flavoured soup bases, this is the place to go. All their other soup bases are very well flavoured too.
The restaurant has a sauce station that you get to mix and match your own ingredients for the ultimate dipping sauce after cooking your items.
When coming here, you’ll want to decide on individual pots (each person has their own pot for cooking) or single pots (all participants share one large pot for cooking). For the undecided, it really boils down to whether you will all share the same soup base.
I recommend their hand made meat pastes rather than the ready made meat balls (fish balls, etc). The hand made ones just taste much better. Be sure to load up on veggies.
Their dinner menu has an all you can eat type of pricing with additional costs for premium soup bases (they’re yummy). Children have a discounted pricing as well. The one thing I found was their pricing is on the high end of the restaurant scene. One can consider the price to be equivalent to an expensive night out at any more common western establishments.
The last thing you’ll finish the night off is with the self-service ice cream. They offer two ice cream flavours which I’m sure the kids will enjoy. Plus, ice cream after hot pot is awesome.
Parking is ample since this restaurant is in...
Read moreThere's a good number of soups to choose from, including a vegetarian mushroom soup. The food quality is good, and the service and staff were very friendly.
The food portions are too small for most items. The amount of noodles was great, and so was the bok choy. We ordered other veggie items like taro, squash, tofu, and mushroom. They only came with four small pieces each. I've never seen so little for these items at any other hot pot restaurant.
The meat portions were also five pieces each, I think? And the seafood items like cuttlefish balls and fish shui mai also felt like tiny portions. I think the fish shui mai came in four, but the cuttlefish balls were already smaller than I've seen at other places. And I might be misremembering, but it was possibly three pieces cut in half.
Sauce selection is okay, but not anywhere near as comprehensive as some other places. They've got your basics, though.
Prices are reasonable and on par with other places' lunch specials, but the portion sizes make it feel pricey.
Like I mentioned, the staff were really friendly and the service was great. I think I'll try and come back at least one more time because I think they just opened, and maybe things haven't settled down yet or they're still sorting out...
Read moreThis was one of the best hot pots we've been too and will definitely be back. The staff was super friendly and very attentive taking away old plates fast and replenishing the water in the hot pot often. Most importantly the food was delicious.
The price is $37.95 for adults plus the broth you pick. We went with the split large pot for $18.95 and took the pork bone broth and the spicy beef tallow broth "hot" level. I found the pork bone broth to be quite delicious but the beef tallow one ended up being too spicy for me. I do eat spicy food but this place is very authentic so the "hot" level was too much for me. The flavors however were spot on to the real thing in China. I would try again but would go with "medium".
There is a large selection of meats, veggies and lots more to pick from which is all you can eat. We got chicken, beef, pork, mushrooms, and cabbage. All were good but the spicy beef was especially good. The beef meatballs and green onion cake were also very good. The only negative we have is we ordered a jar of the plum juice and we didn't think it tasted very good so definitely wouldn't order that again. They have Pepsi products which I also really liked. Looking forward to going back and trying the...
