Edited Oct 2024: I'm changing my rating from 5 stars to 3. I loved this bakery's fresh cream cakes (the strawberry and peach were both amazing), but I was extremely disappointed by their tiramisu. It didn't taste anything like a tiramisu cake should... it just didn't taste good period. It was mostly mascarpone, with very little bread (it was not ladyfingers) which was NOT soaked in coffee. I didn't taste any coffee or alcohol at all, and not even any cocoa... there was a light dusting of cocoa on top of half the cake, but that was just to make it look pretty. There wasn't enough to have any actual taste of cocoa.
I am very disappointed since I paid $48 for a 7" cake, and I've had better tiramisu from the grocery store. It is strange, because on their website, it says that the tiramisu is a bestseller... did they have a new baker that day who didn't care about the quality of the products they were making?
My friends and I had decided to try every single cake from Jun's Bakery, one birthday at a time, but now we are having second thoughts.
The strawberry cream cake is TO DIE FOR. So creamy, light, and fluffy, and not too sweet! The fresh cream was phenomenal. There were pieces of strawberry throughout the layers of the cake. It was SO good! I am going to be getting all my birthday cakes from this bakery, from now on.
Note: the croissants and small cake slices were not...
Read moreI've been to this bakery a few times by now (I don't live close and only go there if I have errands to run in that neighborhood). I've tried a few of their items: the Vanilla Strawberry Cake is outstanding, it is light, tastes fresh and is not too sweet. I also tried the cream roll, was not a fan. I've also bought different kinds of pastries and cookies that I enjoyed. What I love upon entering the bakery is the atmosphere/presentation/ music. I feel like I'm in Europe and not like I do in many other bakeries here in Edmonton, stuck in the 60s and 70s. Two other things I would like to mention: I personally have not tried their Tiramisu Cake but read other people's reviews. The whole point of Tiramsiu is the coffee and alcohol, so I'd recommend the bakery revises the recipe. It's like buying a Black Forrest Cake without the alcohol (Kirschwasser), so dissappointing. Also, when I ordered the cake online, I was informed, that if I don't pick it up on time (you have to let them know the time you're going to come), you might have to pay a fine!!! That is absolutely ridiculous!!! WTH?! I understand that they do not have a lot of storage space but you can ask people politely to be on time and not threaten them with a fine. However, I still give this bakery a 5 stars, simply for the amazing presentation and the fact that the items I've tried are not overly sweet, and...
Read moreAfter looking at the reviews, I was so excited to try Jun’s bakery cake for the first time. Their selection was limited and expensive. I picked up the strawberry chocolate cake but After trying it I was totally disappointed with the flavoring and taste. Am not sure what type of colour that they use for the cake but that seem to leave a stain on my hands and after wash the colour will not come off. Am not sure if that will be good for digestive system. We couldn’t serve the cake to guests because of its unpalatable taste. So we ended up tossing the cake away and went to Costco to get a cake that tasted nice. We’re certainly not going back there. My honest opinion, I will not recommend this place if you want value for your money, and if you don’t want to visit the...
