I was a looking for a simple noodle dish so I opted for the Chicken Hakka Noodles. I was pleasantly surprised by how good they were. Most Indian places do a pretty average noodle dish but Himalayan Village's chicken hakka noodle dish more than exceeded my expectations. I think these were probably some of the best I've had from an Indian or Indo-Chinese restaurant. They nailed the flavour and spice level.
If I had to knock the dish it's because I could have used a few more vegetables and bit less oil but both were minor issues. Most places use way more oil so it really wasn't a big deal.
I also ordered the vegetable pakora and those had a great flavour too. I was expecting more veggies and less flour though. Still not a big deal because all Indian restaurants prepare them differently. There's no consistency between restaurants. I think next time I'd try the samosas instead.
In any case based on this experience, I'll be trying this place again. I look forward to my next order/visit.
Sept. 16th 2025 Update
I've tried Himalayan Village a few more times since my initial review and I've tried a few more things.
The butter chicken is one of the better ones I've eaten in the city. Probably in my top 5 maybe even top 3. Very good taste and it's not sweet like sooo many restaurants make it. I feel like a sweetened butter chicken sauce is more for people that can't handle spice.
The chicken fried rice is very similar to the chicken hakka noodles. The ingredients and taste are very similar, the only difference is that one has noodles and the other has rice. I'd say the hakka noodles are a bit better because they add a slightly different flavour profile.
The shrimp fried rice was just okay. There's a good portion of shrimp and the ingredients are similar to the chicken fried rice, but I thought it lacked flavour. I think the juices/fat from the chicken adds some flavour to the rice whereas the shrimp doesn't do that. It's a good dish but after trying the chicken fried rice and chicken hakka noodles, by comparison it's a bit lacking. It's a bit lighter though because of the shrimp.
The chole samosa is probably one of the best I've tried in the city as well. The chole (chickpeas) are very hearty and don't have a runny sauce/gravy like many restaurants make it. The chickpeas are also nicely softened. The samosa work very will with the chole and everything blends well together. It's easily a two person portion (for lunch), maybe even 3-4 people (for dinner) if you have other items as well.
Himalayan Village is arguably one of the better Indian restaurants on the south side, and they can adjust the spice level of each dish which is good for people that don't like spice or for people that like a...
