I would like to preface this by saying I have never left a review before but in this case I feel I need to. As well, I am a server myself and always give restaurant/servers the benefit of the doubt. Earlier this evening my friends and I went for dinner after class. My one friend ordered the chicken teriyaki bowl and the other ordered the chicken katsu. After about 5 mins of eating they both noticed undercooked pink chicken. We waited quite a while to get someone’s attention to let them know about the issue. He took the plates away saying he will consult the kitchen. After that he brought the plates back offering to re cook the meat but at this point both my friends were put off and concerned about the fact that they just consumed raw chicken. He said something we couldn’t understand, something along the lines of if you have any other questions ask the co host, and then walked away. Then after a bit we flagged down a different girl who we once again explained the situation to. She said she will take the bowls and talk to the kitchen. We explained this already happened and how we no longer wanted the food (that was barely eaten). So this time she took the bowls away without saying anything further. After that a girl by the name of Rita or rina came up to the table asking us to give her some information on what happened. We told the story for the third time. Her response was oh I’m really sorry that happened but there isn’t much we can do for you. We pointed out the meals weren’t eaten much and that a customer should not have to pay for undercooked meat/food that they can’t eat. To this she offered to take care of our drinks (two cokes) we declined this offer as the coke was not the issue. The issue was the undercooked/pink/raw looking chicken. It felt like we had to bargain up to any sort of compromise with her which ended up being %20 off of the two meals that were un consumable. When asked if we could speak to a manager she replied there wasn’t one there. Okay fair enough it’s a Monday night. so we ask for a phone number/card/way to contact and rina tells us she doesn’t know how to contact the manager. Also when asked about policy for uncooked meat/food safety and customers paying she replied that there is no policy. The whole experience was upsetting and felt unfair. It seemed as though staff kept passing the issue off to the next person instead of taking responsibility and making the situation right. Or maybe possibly management has a wack policy about the situation. It’s simple. If you serve your guests uncooked/unsafe/improper food, you do not make them pay for the food. If I had been provided with a management email/number/contact I would not be leaving this review but want the managers to know about...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal customer of Tatsu for some time, and I’ve always enjoyed the food and service—until my recent visit. Unfortunately, my experience was beyond disappointing, and it was marred by the unprofessional and disrespectful behavior of the staff.
Today we called ahead twice to inquire about the "All You Can Eat" menu, informing the staff that we were coming around 9 PM to celebrate a birthday. Both times, we were assured that we could come at any time, as Thursday was not a busy night. However, when we arrived, we were shocked to be told that we could only order individual items from the menu because the kitchen closes at 10 PM—just an hour away.
We waited for about 20 minutes while the staff went back and forth with the kitchen to determine if we could even place the order. After more delays, they finally told us that they didn’t recommend ordering from the "All You Can Eat" option, which was the primary reason we chose this restaurant in the first place. After insisting that we specifically came for this option, the waiter casually smiled and said she would check with the kitchen. Eventually, they agreed we could proceed with our order.
To make matters worse, they moved us to a table directly in front of the kitchen staff, where we endured rude behavior. Two of the kitchen staff kept laughing at us and speaking in their language, making it clear they were mocking us. This was incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional—something I’ve never experienced in any restaurant, especially not one I had previously enjoyed.
When we asked to speak to the manager, we were told there was no manager available, as they were in Calgary. This lack of accountability was extremely frustrating.
We had also brought a birthday cake to surprise our friend, and I had requested beforehand that the staff bring the cake with candles to the table for the celebration. Instead, the cake arrived still in the box—no candles, no knife to cut it, and certainly no effort to make the moment special. To make the situation worse, the staff member in the kitchen was openly mocking us, singing "Happy Birthday" in a sarcastic tone, adding to the overall feeling of disrespect.
This experience was a complete letdown, and it has seriously made me reconsider returning to this restaurant. It’s sad, as we’ve always enjoyed the food here, but the unprofessional behavior from the staff was unacceptable. It’s hard to believe that such poor service could come from a place that once had a...
