Freak Lunchbox — Local services in Halifax

Love the stores. We try and make a point to stop in whenever we’re in the city. My son received a gift certificate for Xmas and we went to the store a month ago or so and couldn’t use it. We were told you had to use it to order online and either have your candy delivered or place an order to pick up in store. That was a bummer, selling gift certificates that cannot be used in the store, come on! So we tried again and he put his order in online to pick up at the store and when we showed up yesterday they said there must have been a problem as there was no order there for him to pick up. Very overpriced!! Was in the store browsing and noticed they had a selection of Arizona Iced Tea. Now Arizona Iced Tea's claim to fame is that they are always .99¢. The owners make a point to never change the price of their product. I was shocked to find out that this store charges almost $3 per can. I've seen this product marked up before, but never like that. If you're looking for some obscure candy you can't find anywhere else, then this store may be able to help, but I can't imagine why anyone would ever buy anything there. I’ve been coming to HALIFAX and this location for 15 years. Today I was served by someone who hated their job and wasn’t happy to see me. This used to be a fun place to come, but it has recently been renovated, and the staff are quite unfriendly. The only interaction I had was during payment, when I asked for a plastic bag because of the pouring rain outside. The response was a curt “Plastic bags are banned in Canada” No eye contact. No smile. Terrible customer service. People don’t stop here for the candy. People stop here for the atmosphere, the nostalgia, the fun. Today erased every bit of that. I probably...
