I recently had the pleasure of dining with my neighbor and my wife at Dim Sum House in Hamilton, and it was a truly satisfying experience from start to finish.
The atmosphere inside is warm and welcoming, with a modern yet cozy dining space that makes it a comfortable spot for both family gatherings and casual meals. The service was attentive and efficient, which added to the overall positive experience.
Now, to the highlight—the food. The variety of dishes offered is impressive, covering all the traditional favorites that make dim sum so beloved. The har gow (shrimp dumplings) were fresh and delicate, with a perfect translucent skin that held generous portions of juicy shrimp. The siu mai was another standout, flavorful and tender with a nice touch of roe on top. The steamed beef balls were light yet rich in taste, and the dumplings filled with vegetables were both hearty and refreshing.
For something a little different, I really enjoyed the curry squid—savory with just the right level of spice. The pan-fried turnip cakes were crispy on the outside and soft inside, pairing beautifully with the accompanying chili sauce. The rice noodle rolls (cheung fun) were smooth and silky, filled generously and served with a light soy sauce that balanced the flavor well.
The selection also included comforting options like fried rice with vegetables, which was fragrant, colorful, and satisfying. The blanched greens drizzled with oyster sauce added a fresh and healthy contrast to the meal.
Overall, every dish was presented neatly, portions were generous, and the quality was consistent across the board. Dim Sum House delivers both authenticity and flavor, making it a fantastic place to enjoy a wide selection of dim sum in Hamilton.
If you are looking for a spot that combines great food, reasonable prices, and a friendly environment, Dim Sum House is definitely worth visiting. It’s a gem for dim sum lovers and a great way to enjoy Cantonese cuisine right here...
Read moreWe are so delighted to have recently discovered/tried this restaurant. Within the past two weeks, we have already gone three times due to our family's enjoyment of it. Within Hamilton, we would argue this is one of the better traditional dim sum restaurants we have been thrilled to eat at, although we acknowledge it is still a reach to compare it to authentic dim sum restaurants out in the GTA. Their food prices are fair and we justify it based on the fact we are saving on the cost of gas to go out-of-city for the premium.
Portion sizes are reasonable to the price, though there are some items that are certainly bang-for-the-buck. The congee is spectacular for Hamilton quality, we have not experienced anything like this within the city confines and we're sure to order it on every visit.
As usual, downtown parking is never thrilling, but there is availability in rear lots and curbside (if you're lucky), but most of it will be paid unless you are willing to do a bit of a hike or it's a weekend/holiday.
The staff there are attentive and friendly. With years of exposure to the level of service at Asian restaurants/eateries, I can say their service puts a smile on my face. The atmosphere is inviting and the only area I would say is a bit lacking, would be their washrooms, they're a bit dingy and is located downstairs (would be a problem for those with accessibility needs). This place accepts cash and card (without a surcharge), which is nice.
I did notice some promotional offers on their tables, one with a 10% discount offer and when I inquired about how to obtain it, I was not given a very clear answer and left confused. I had to do some digging on my own and my response to that would be if there are promotions available on the table, then the staff should be aware of how to explain the promotion...
Read moreI NEVER GIVE ANY PLACE A REVIEW. 2 days ago my girlfriend and I. When we entered the restaurant, the staff only asked, “Do you have a reservation?” and then walked away without informing us whether we could be seated. After 5 minutes, we were shown to our table and started ordering, but it took 15 minutes for the first dish to arrive. While we were ordering some additional items, the manager came to our table, took our order on an iPad, and logged us out. We mentioned that we were still ordering, and she logged us in again—but on the wrong table, which we only realized later.
Not wanting to use the iPad any longer, I asked her to add an extra bowl of congee for me. Ten minutes later, they brought 2 bowls of congee, even though I was certain I hadn’t ordered 2 bowls since two people can’t possibly finish two large bowls. I believe her mistake in logging out and then logging in on the wrong table affected our ordering process. We spoke with the manager, but she insisted that everything was done correctly and that we had ordered on our own through the iPad. We received the congee, but they didn’t bring us any spoons. When we requested one, they brought a single very large spoon meant to be shared between two people for two bowls of congee.
We are truly DISSAPOINTED with DIM SUM HOUSE, even though it has a...
