i've passed by freshslice pizza on king street (FPK) b/w east avenue and emerald avenue, many times and decided to take the plunge on a late night.
b4 i get into my review, i have a tremendous amount of respect for FPK and the other businesses in this area trying to make a go of it in this area of the city.
for people unfamiliar with the area...simply be alert and polite, and you'll be ok, morning, day and night. travel with multiple people if you can, to further increase your safety.
that said - a texas-sized shout-out goes out to anil, the man behind the counter for providing a warm and welcoming environment. 💙
being a 1st-time customer, anil answered all my questions with enthusiasm. he projected a very positive attitude. working by yourself at night in a dangerous neighborhood is not easy. yet he is not a complainer, and takes all the safety precautions he can for the job, and for the customers.
anil was a very positive representation of the store and for himself. i expect big things for him in terms of success at the store and in his personal future, wherever that leads him.
i ended up grabbing the 16-inch pizza without cheese (personal allergy restriction) that runs $23; $26 all-in with tax.
as an old-school pizza guy, i go to a place across town that i've been dealing with since 1997. so freshslice is something new, something different. their pizza is not heavy with the dough, so the body of the crust is thin. the outside crust is a decent size.
with FPK you're paying for quality ingredients, not so much for a heavyweight pizza. after eating the pizza, it's very delicious. the ingredients aren't a lot on their own, but with unlimited toppings you get some good choices that add up real good.
all their ingredients are fresh, and FPK assembles your pizza in front of your eyes. FPK as part of their commitment to healthy eating, uses vegan cheese as an option, and their dough is a multi-grain composition.
what i noticed with FPK's pizza is that there was no bloating or greasy afterfeeling in my mouth or stomach. it's literally a clean pizza. no feeling of a cinderblock in your stomach. the inside of the pizza box had hardly any grease leaking from the cooked meat and chicken items.
another positive of FPK is the incredible business hours. 3am closings every day; 4am closings, sat and sun. doors open up at 1030am everyday. 🔥
the store itself isn't big but is clean, modern and tastefully designed with a positive projection. there's a decent amount of seating relative to the size of the store for folks with eat-in orders.
the only reason i'm knocking off one star is for the weight of the pizza. if you're super-duper hungry, an XL 16-inch will only stuff 2 adults at best. 1 guy alone could eat 6 out of the 8 slices, no problem. so for $26 all-in, keep that in mind.
again though, this is a very CLEAN pizza in terms of great quality, healthy ingredients, so that's the trade-off. with my unlimited toppings i end up with 15 toppings, so that's tremendous value in itself.
december 20, 2024: aman (store worker) was a excellent representation of the store and himself. FPK continues to provide all the wonderful qualities as explained from the dec. 18th review. the unlimited XL size pizza was delightful.
bottom line: i would def return to FPK again in the future. i would keep them in mind as a late night food option. would def recommend FPK to others as well. try them out and draw your own...
Read moreFirst time ordering, I ordered the two pizzas for $20 deal. The first pizza was supposed to have double pineapple, bacon & ham. The second double cheese, bacon, and pineapple. When I got home, the pizza that was supposed to have the double pineapple had maybe 10 to 15 pieces of pineapple on the whole pizza, the same as or maybe even less than the other pizza that had regular pineapple. (So if I didn’t ask for double pineapple, there probably would’ve been 5 pieces on the whole pizza) I called to let them know that the pizza did not have double pineapple, because honestly it’s really tiring ordering from places and not getting what you order. The guy on the phone barely let me speak and was talking over me, and I was told that it did. Which it did not because the “double pineapple” had just as much if not less than the one that only had regular pineapple, then, was told very rudely “it’s a $10 pizza” basically what should I expect for $10. I don’t think it matters how much you pay and give your money to a business. You should always get what you order and be respected while doing it. I do understand things happen, but excellent customer service can rectifying the situation always can make it better. I would not have even made this review if it wasn’t for the poor...
Read moreVery good pizza & wings. They gave me the wrong pizza (I ordered Fiesta pesto feast, I got veggie feast) however it was still a very good pizza. I was somewhat unimpressed with one of the workers. It was late at night and there was a male and female worker. The female worker was assembling the pizzas and cooking them. When she was finished, she handed me everything but forgot to give me my dips and drinks. She briefly went to the back to talk to the guy and I could hear them arguing. Then she came back out and grabbed the extra stuff. It was clear she was annoyed that he couldn't even bother to gather up the drinks and dips while she was doing most of the work actually making the pizzas. And she should be, he should have helped out as it caused...
