We used to order from this Chinese Food Restaurant, when we did reside in the Hamilton, ON core. Since moved to the West End/Dundas, ON area and really have not found the consistent cooking nor the reasonable price that Oriented Restaurant has to offer. Donāt know about other reviews, but on this occasion 05/16/2025 about 7:30 P.M. we placed a pick our order on the phone. Ordered Lemon Chicken, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Beef Chow Mein and a order of Jumbo Breaded Shrimp with Lemon and 1 egg roll. Order was ready within 15 minutes of calling, took everything home and heated eat up. We had no complaints on this order, rice was fried up nicely, with lots of BBQ Pork chunks throughout. Chow Mein was good too, lots of thinly sliced beef strips mixed amongst the fresh bean sprouts (with the dry hard noodles they give for the top). The Lemon Chicken was lightly battered and chicken was tasty and tender, the Jumbo Breaded Shrimps were a good size, battered nicely with a slice of lemon to squeeze on them. The egg roll that was ordered, was a good size and crunchy, with plenty of ingredients inside of the rolls themself. Plenty of condiments supplied also. All though the Restaurant isnāt located in the best part of the City IMO, and thereās only Take-Out or Delivery (no eat in), the food is worth it, in our opinion and the prices are quite reasonable and in line with inflationary times. Would recommend this place for Chinese Food, when we ever have a craving for Chinese Food again, we will definitely come back, after...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOrdered from skip the dishes, their menu has no real descriptions to what the food is (Iāll get to this later) but I love chinese food and know what most items are, so I ordered my food already knowing what it was (or so I thought). Delivered in a timely fashion and was hot, but, coming back to my previous point, the BBQ Chow Mein was EXCLUSIVELY bean sprouts and some pieces of BBQ pork. Thatās it. I called back only to be told chow mein ādoesnāt have noodles itās only bean sproutsā and to order the Lo mein next time instead. Warning to other hungry people to not order this dish, if youāre going to put a classic chinese dish at least put a description of your menu items on the actual menu. Maybe itās becuase iām originally from the west coast and in the east coast it means āonly bean sprouts with some meatā.
The food itself was good and came in huge portions, classic take out american style chinese food but only disappointed in the chow mein.
Almost felt like a fine print scam on a terms and conditions form. Equivalent to ordering a burger and having it come without a bun. At least I have my own egg noodles in my pantry, Iāll make the dish myself, thanks for the 1lbs of bean sprouts and sauce, itāll...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOK, I'm totally changing my review on this place. First off, they've moved. Now they're a take-out joint, gone is the gross dingy dining room and super-sad "lounge". Now it's a bright, cheery windowfront store with fast take-out. This was def. a GOOD MOVE on their part! Second, the food actually seems better... is this possible? New cook? Or maybe I'm just ordering smarter. You can still eat like a fiend there for very little, and it really helps stretch a paycheque if you have a jones for some Chinese food. It's still not four-star quality, but for the price you're going to look very hard to beat this place. I think I gave them two stars before based on how utterly dismal the old location was, and how the dishes all tasted a bit samey-samey to me... but the last two times I've ordered from them (both since the move) I have been impressed with the speed, the service, the quality and the quantity of food... and the value! So good on you, Oriental Restaurant & Tavern! You turned it around and now I'm happy to come by every few months and...
