Genki ya sushi — Restaurant in Hamilton

I've gone to this restaurant 3 times in the past week. Twice for dine-in and once for pickup. Their menu is great and their food is fantastic. The setting is very cute and clean. So far I've tried the scallop and shrimp sashimi, agedashi tofu, takoyaki, teriyaki tofu, curry chicken Katsu don, tuna poke, and BBQ eel sushi. The sashimi weren't fantastic, but everything else was! The one thing this restaurant is missing is the complete lack of service. At first I gave the benefit of the doubt, but it unfortunately seems to be consistent for the dine-in experience. Walking in is incredibly awkward when the person behind the counter doesn't even look at you to say hello, so we had to ask if it was okay to sit down. It almost feels like they don't want you there? The only good experience service-wise was for takeout which was quick and easy. I get the vibe that the person who works the counter that is also the server, doesn't enjoy being a server. Unfortunate because that also seems to be the only server. Weird because I've seen a lot of good comments on service in previous reviews, so I wonder if it was just a bad week for that particular server? This spot would be 4.5 stars if they up their service game. I'll go again just for the food, but likely will only do takeout going forward. If service improves, I'll re-do this review but until then, a solid 3*.

Update: I cannot deny how much I enjoy the food here. I've had nearly everything on the menu at this point. I've brought 4 other people with me individually and they have all had nothing but good feedback for the food! It's genuinely a really good restaurant and they care about the product they're putting out.

The food at this place is delicious! I ordered for the first time earlier this week and was genuinely impressed. The sushi was fresh, perfectly rolled with the right amount of rice, and tasted amazing. The bento boxes were generously portioned and I was pleasantly surprised with the tender, tanginess of the General Tso’s chicken.

They have a great deal on Uber where you get a whole 10 piece roll free with purchases over $40 and it did not disappoint. It felt as though they went over and beyond to make my first order special.

The food had me wanting more just a few days later. This time, I tried the ramen. It was just what I was craving with a rich broth and perfectly cooked noodles.

Order on Uber Eats and never heard of this place before. I thought I’d try a new sushi place and I’m glad I did! The portions were big and the sushi was so fresh. I got a chicken katsu ramen bowl and had a buy one get one free spicy tuna and then I got the crazy love roll. DELICIOUS. And they also gave a complimentary order of spring rolls and that shocked me! Never received anything complimentary from an order and that made my day! Definitely ordering from them again, I’d like to go in person next...
