After reading all the Postive comments we decided to try here, as we live off of Upper Wentowrth as well. We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food ( we were quoted 30 mins over the phone) The restaurant called and asked us if we have cash? They stated that if we did they could deliver it right now, and if we didn’t it would be 5-10 more minutes (that ended up being 45 minutes) because they didn’t have there debit terminal. I did not have cash, and I advised when I ordered. (Now adays it’s rare to carry cash anyway with all that’s going on) Anyway, they finally arrived ONLY to have forgotten the debit terminal at the store, however they did leave the food with us, that was nice, but silly me I should have checked it out before paying upon his second arrival with the machine. I tipped fairly as I always do, as the chef/delivery driver (still in his dirty chef apron, yikes) was nice.
Now for the food. It was freezing cold. The Hong Kong Spicy (crispy) Shrimp was completely ruined, very soggy, not one piece of crisp, and completely over-saturated with sweet sauce. I mean really sweet and not very light as the menu stated. Not appetizing at all. The wings were huge and battered heavily, the batter was so soggy & cold and the meat was extremely tough, they had a bit of a funny taste too (they weren’t the typical wings you get when you order from Chinese food places) The sauce that I had requested on the side had a puncture hole in it, about the size of a toonie and the plastic piece was just floating around in in the sauce. We also ordered Singapore noodles, which were okay.. they had chicken and shrimp in them, which the Menu did not advertise, my daughter doesn’t eat meat so it was a bit of a disappointment as well. The general tao chicken was extremely tough(overcooked), to the point where you couldn’t even swallow she pieces, you just had to spit it out.
Overall, I was not impressed. Ive worked in the restaurant industry for 16 years so I absolutely do have a bit of an expectation when it comes to food quality and presentation. This was not impressive by far and did not reflect all the all Postive reviews I read prior to ordering.. I will say if the food was fresh perhaps it would have been more appetizing (other then the wings and General chicken they simply were just not tasty) I feel like our food should have been remade as the debit not being available was not our fault. Or certain items be remade. It was a lesson learned and we unfortunately won’t be ordering from there again. We are still on the hunt for a decent place on the hill. Hope this helps some of...
Read moreDecided to give Hong Kong a try after trying a number of different Chinese food takeout spots and being disappointed Time after Time. Let me tell you Hong Kong did not disappoint and I have now finally found my go-to for Chinese takeout. This place checked all of the boxes... Everything was hot and fresh, portions were very good and the overall price was very fair and affordable. The total cost after a discount and taxes came in around $60. Ordered the chicken balls, breaded shrimp, Cantonese chow mein, beef with broccoli, and vegetable fried rice. In addition to very good value for all of this food, we also qualified for free cheese wontons... Which were amazing. The chicken balls were the best I have ever had... Very tender chicken on the inside and the batter was just perfectly crispy. I have the food in my car for approximately a half hour before I got home and it was still piping hot. I cannot tell you how impressed I was with this place. Highly...
Read moreSaw the review in the mountain news and finally got there ordering alot of takeout for family dinner. I ordered ahead. Staff were super pleasant and offered apologies as Uber and doordash superseded my order. I didn’t mind the wait. The spot was no frills and had alot of orders coming in and it was cool to see how they managed it all. They have been in business for quite a long time so i was looking forward to the food. We got a variety from Cantonese chow mein (traditional) to chicken balls (Canadian). All was really good quality. The Cantonese chow mein is my measure of authenticity and I have had better but if you wanna get your fill and chow down on good fried food it’s a good...
