The food is excellent - I will say that, but that's the only positive with this restaurant. This was almost a year ago, but I just drove by this place and it reminded me of my terrible experience. I had previously rated them 5 Stars after our first visit. Note that I rarely - if ever - rate something if it's a bad experience. I prefer to point out the great experiences and think of the bad ones as possibly a bad day for the staff. I can't let this one go in my head.
My wife's background is Chinese and during our first visit we brought her parents. We had a great experiece; it was so good that we organized a second visit with friends. Seventeen of us in total!
I called and booked a table well in advance and the owner tried to change the time because that was around her food rush. If you've ever tried to schedule seventeen people, changing things doesn't happen and I insisted that it couldn't change. She relented.
This was the first Dim Sum experience for most of my friends - my wife was the only Chinese person among us. Again, the food is good so my friends really enjoyed it, but we were treated very poorly.
The rush happened well into our visit, but there were plenty of tables left. We tried to order more food and were told 'no' - they wanted to serve their other customers. We also asked for a round of waters for everyone at the start of our visit and never got them, though every other table had them as they sat!
After we had all paid - note that seventeen people means several bills and a long process to pay with one machine - and as the last of us exited the restaurant the owner ran out and shouted at us, "Did you pay? Did you pay? Who?!". When we told her we had paid at the front and then pulled out the receipt to show her she just said, "Oh" and walked away.
It was incredibly rude and she was just awful to us. My wife's parents have asked us since to go back and we never will, even though we haven't found another good Dim Sum place in Hamilton.
Instead of gaining 15 new customers...
Read moreFirst time visiting yesterday after readings all of the positive reviews for DIMSUM, decided to take someone that hasn’t experienced authentic dimsum before.
PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME NOR MONEY FOR SUB AVERAGE CHINESE FOOD.
Not only was the food sub par but the service was awful and uncomfortable for the price.
It was like the waitress felt like she was doing us a favour by serving us from the moment we got there, probably the most miserable old Asian woman I’ve ever met. From the onset she was just rude and was not accommodating, should have taken the cue to leave. (we were the only ones in there)
Some of comments that were made by the waiting staff:
when asked for an extra plate, we were asked why ( we ordered 4 dimsum plates, fried rice, beef, only seated with 2 plates) straight up rude when asking to start with dimsum first -felt pressured to order more dimsum by wait staff even though there is not minimum requirements listed anywhere -extra for tea, sauces, water ( i get inflation but never in my 25 years of dining asian cuisine has it been all 3 was an extra charge)
To top all of that, the food was absolutely disgusting beef dish had barely any meat dimsum was super dry
Its like they didn't want returning customers
Overall all very uncomfortable experience for $70 worth of food & Im honestly confused to why all the reviews are so highly rated, food is below average and service is horrible.
Edit: after scrolling through the reviews and noticing that its only 5 star ratings or 1 star ratings: they pick and choose who’s business they want.
Their service/ reviews reflects that very clearly. This is an absolutely disgusting establishment. No one should...
Read moreStay away!!! This restaurant is a joke. Terrible service, the angry old lady server was so rude and angry we wanted to pay for the tea and water and walk out even before ordering. She seemed annoyed the second we walked in, we were waiting to be seated and she asked us if we were using fork or chopsticks? I told her both and she got annoyed and flicked her fingers toward a table and turned away.
She was shaking her head and sighing the whole time we were placing our orders. She got mad when I asked for more chopsticks, she grabbed a pair and tossed them on the table. Here's the best one, so I asked her politely in Chinese if I can please have some hot sauce, she comes over and starts barking at me, " your food is not even here yet, why do you need it now, why are you wasting my time , I can be doing something else right now" unbelievable lol!
For all the people that rated the dim sum anything more than 0 stars needs to do yourself a favor and go try some real dim sum. The food was horrible, some were borderline expired. The fried shrimp rolls were burnt( old oil) the steamed beef balls and siu mail had absolutely no taste. I needed a spoon and chopstick to pick up the mushy shrimp rice rolls. The ginger and onion tripe was slimy and mushy(gross) the fried calamari was hard and burnt. Would not go back even if...
