McQueen's Banh Mi Viet — Restaurant in Hamilton

We first discovered McQueen’s Banh Mi sometime around 2023 or 2024 through a YouTube Shorts recommendation. Back then, we used to pass through Brantford often, so we decided to give it a try—and honestly, their banh mi is to die for. The baguette is perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just the way it should be. We always get the Saigon Banh Mi—it's packed with flavour, a perfect balance of savory and sweet, and the portion size is generous. It's also a great deal for the price.

Since that first visit, we've become huge fans. We started by buying five banh mi, then upped it to eleven, and on our most recent visit—twenty-two. Yes, 22! That's how good they are.

Most recently, on May 4, 2025, we called just after opening to reserve our order while we were heading out for a hike at Mono Cliffs Provincial Park. We originally planned to get to Hamilton around 3:00–3:30pm, but our hike took longer than expected. I called again to let them know we’d be late. Even though they had already sold out, the staff was incredibly kind—they waited for us before closing up. I felt bad for the delay but was so grateful for their above-and-beyond service.

We live about two hours away, but we’ll happily make the trip just for McQueen’s. We actually weren’t planning to go to Hamilton that day—but the craving was too real, and it was totally worth the detour. We brought the banh mi to Devil’s Punchbowl and enjoyed them with a view. It was perfect.

We’ve tried other banh mi spots when McQueen’s sells out early, but nothing else hits quite the same. I’ve made YouTube and RedNote videos about them just to share how amazing their banh mi is.

This 1-star is not about their subs. It's about their operation!

I drove over 30 mins today August 18, 2021 and arrived at 2pm and they are SOLD OUT. They close at 4pm. Today is only Wednesday during weekday. If you constantly sell out early, then you either increase food quantity or just change your hours of operation to 2pm.

What a waste of time. I was so excited to finally try it. I get it if one of the subs is sold out but the whole store is sold out? Really? You have 2 hours left before closing. You have plenty of time to bake more bread if needed. Whatever food cost you are trying to save, I can tell you angry customers cost more. A lady ahead of me walked out too so that's two customers that didn't spend with you. How much food cost did you save?

They told me "oh, you could have called ahead or ordered online". How about YOU COULD HAVE BAKED MORE BREAD INSTEAD? It was only 2pm. You must have known that by 12pm bread was running low. Bake more. Prepare ahead of time.

Several reviews express the same thing. Poor operations. Some think their food must be so good that they run out. No. I think their operation is just poorly managed. When is the last time The Keg runs out of food to sell?? Their food...

Best Bahn Mi I've had in a long while. From Oakville, we pass through Hamilton on our weekly drives. We passed by McQueen's all the time but had no idea. If I lived closer I could have their food everyday! Amazing bread and fillings. Friendly and my daughter says super duper yummy!

Edit: I just found out today that they make their paté fresh daily! So, they say they may close a little earlier than their posted closing time if they run out. Today, they are nearly sold out... It's only 2:00 pm! There is definitely a difference in taste.

Edit: July 12, 2020 The shop had been reopened for about a month since the lockdown from COVID-19. I've missed the great food and the welcoming nature of the operator. I'm thankful the operator is not our of business like so many others. Truly a great!!!

Edit: November 22, 2020 I just ordered 5 Bahn Mi and got the freshest baked Vietnamese baguette. They bake it fresh in the shop and they are crispy crusted. The best bread had to be this crunchy! That's what Bahn mi is all about.
