Just have to share the absolutely wonderful experience my wife Gail and I recently had at Train Station Pub. We have been to the Pub infrequently over the years, but it had been a bit of time since our last visit. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly hostess, checked in and seated at our table right away. Atmosphere was great, just how we always remembered it to be. We both ordered our favorite, the eggs benny and were very, very happy with the quality of the food and the absolute perfection of the cooking of the poached eggs!! Being very picky about the cook on my poached eggs, I have to say these were the absolute best that I have had in a restaurant in quite some time. Whites cooked, and yolks runny, but cooked. Even the eggs seemed to be either very fresh, or farm eggs or?? not sure. They were a very bright, deep yellow in color and fantastic to taste. The roasted potatoes, pesto tomato, hollandaise sauce, etc. that accompanied the meal, very yummy! Love those potatoes. Our waitress, Kobi, was the absolute best! Very friendly, personable, accommodating, on the ball and helpful with suggestions when it came to dessert. A valuable team member. Speaking of dessert, the peach crumble dessert is, as they say, to die for!! So good.... April (managing partner) stopped by to say hello and have a chat to check in on us. Very nice touch and contributed to the whole experience and great vibe of the pub. We also had a chat and a couple laughs with Bobby, day manager, and this too brought a smile and feeling of belonging to us. Overall, the brunch experience, from the food to the wonderful staff and their great service, just made our Sunday the best!! We will be back, hopefully more often as our schedule permits. Highly recommend you try the Train...
Read moreAlmost $40 each before tip, for 3 people to share 2 appies and one drink each. The nachos had a small amount of cheese and ground beef sprinkled on top, no layering at all. I think we had an entire garden of green onions and jalapeños the size of small orange slices, with minimal tomatoes. Very small containers of salsa and sour cream with queso, for $27. We ordered the wings as well, and I think we got maybe 9 or 10 wings for $20. I mean I understand food prices have gone up but $120 plus for 2 teeny appies that were priced as meals, then to deliver them lacking substance and fair portioning is quite disappointing. Let’s be fair for the prices you’re charging!!!! We literally went to Red Bird after and ordered a full pizza for $18 to fill up, and took a few pieces home! The drinks total could have bought an entire 2-6 for the 3 drinks we consumed. Yes we each left a tip, our server was pleasant, but didn’t overly exceed her task/job which is to serve the overpriced items we purchased to the table and then bring us the bill. This mandatory expectation of tipping has topped out as well, when food costs a fortune, I expect a bit extra if these establishments are expecting me to pay extra on what I already overpaid! To me a tip is rewarded for going above and beyond, being served food that was clearly poorly portioned and presented doesn’t deserve extra! Just overall wasn’t impressed with the portions and lack of fair for cost experience. I would like to see all establishments do better than making a person feel ripped off when choosing their establishment for an experience. Side note…….Being better than the other guy will get you more business then the other guy, and in the end you won’t lose on...
Read moreAfter years of hearing how excellent this pub was, finally visited for a meal on a Saturday (early-afternoon) during Dine Around 2023. Several tables were available but the pub filled up pretty quickly after our arrival. A bit of history there being an old CN train station so that was cool. The interior itself was comfortable with booths, bar/regular tables, and great natural lighting. The specials board displayed many craft beer options but we didn't try any during this visit. The pub is claimed to have the best Caesars in town so will definitely have one next time. Saw a Caesar at the bar waiting to be served and it definitely looked thirst quenching!
Lots of room for better coordination/training in the service dept. If it wasn't for the super friendly and attentive bartender, who actually took our order and served us, this review would be 1 star.
The main food menu was okay. My guest ordered the beef dip plate which was tasty and filling. I had the Dine Around lunch menu (squash soup, street tacos (sliced steak), ice cream cake) which was fine but not fantastic. The starter soup was very good and well proportioned. For the main, three tacos would have made the cost more closely worth the meal as two just didn't cut it. The dessert was a sponge cake encased in ice cream which didn't pull off very well - it was quite a chore trying to cut through the frozen cake to enjoy it.
Overall the visit was a typical pub outing but nothing more exciting than that. Granted it was the afternoon so the evening may get a more festive crowd and perhaps have more experienced kitchen and service...
