NOTE-
We heard about "Spicy" Ghughra like a couple of days back. Our friends were super excited to try out food at this place and said that they had not tasted ghughra for more than two years. So we joined their journey to explore this Gujarathi cuisine! Only when we reached there did we realise this is a take out. Because we forgot to check out the photos of the place, and went on reviews alone.
The owner was super friendly and very warm and welcoming. He apologized to us notifying us in advance that the kitchen had just started at 12 P.M and we reached there at 11:50 A.M.
He gave us "Tea" which was not on the menu and that too was on the house from the owner. It was so sweet and warm from his side. We also made sure to make up for that by tipping from our end.
Coming to the food.
My wife and I ordered Ghughra and Cheese chilli toast. They were super delicious! Chilli toast was hitting just the right taste buds. It did not have extra oil or butter. Ghughra, what should I say about ghughra, it was beautiful! If ever taste could be described in words. It reminded me of local "ragda pattis" in mumbai or a "Samosa chat" from North india. It was too good. Being in Canada, I go with 0 expectations to get Indian food as I don't know how many licenses and standards these businesses need to get through to sell food. So still being able to provide such good authentic food and at the same time satisfy all customers is impossible! Ghughra was too good.
Our friends ate 2 ghagras, ghatia, jalebi and Name will be updated soon they were on cloud 9. It's good to see food spread so much happiness!
Even the chai was great ❤️
Amazing food. Must try.
I really hope they open a dine out...
Read moreI was looking for a place to try some authentic Indian street food(Ghughra), but I ended up in a nightmare. This place was hard to find, as it had no sign or board as shown in photo. There was no reception or waiting area.
We had to knock on the door several times, and then call the restaurant number to get someone to open it. The person who came looked like he had just woken up from a nap, and he did not greet us or apologize for the delay.
The menu was overpriced for the portion they served and the food was disappointing. We tried ghughra and it was supposed to be hot and crispy, but it was cold and soggy. The food was also too spicy for our taste(though Ghughra is supposed to be spicy but this is next level) and we could not finish it. We asked for masala toast sandwich which was not available. The food gave us a terrible stomach ache and acidity, and we regretted eating there.
Answer to owner - First thing you can't digest negative feedback. Rather than accepting and taking action towards you are arguing and talking rudely.I didn't complain about takeout thing but let me tell you even in takeout restaurants I think someone should there to take order. I was thinking about to delete the review but now felt let it...
Read moreVery poor experience at Balaji Ghugara Restaurant. The restaurant is literally named after ghughara, yet every single time I visit, ghughara is never available. This is not just once or twice — it has become a regular issue. Customers come here expecting to enjoy the dish that defines the restaurant’s name, and every time we are told it’s “not available.”
This shows a complete lack of planning, management, and respect for customers. If a restaurant cannot serve its own signature dish, then it is misleading to continue advertising it. Either maintain proper stock and preparation of ghughara, or stop using it in your name — because right now it feels like false branding.
Highly disappointed. I would not recommend this place to anyone who genuinely wants to try ghughara, because you will almost always leave empty-handed. Management seriously needs to improve or risk losing...
