My recent dining experience at Mandi Afandi in Mississauga left me with conflicting impressions, as the restaurant presented both highlights and disappointments.
Opting for the Mixed Mandi and Madhbi, I couldn't help but appreciate the well-prepared meat, particularly the succulent lamb. The flavors were rich and satisfying, showcasing the culinary expertise of the kitchen. However, the excessive oiliness of both dishes raised concerns about the overall healthiness of the meal.
The disappointment continued with the Karak milk tea, which failed to capture the essence of a true Karak experience. The tea lacked the expected boldness and richness, resembling more of a standard machine-made tea than the flavorful blend I had anticipated.
The ambiance, unfortunately, did not contribute positively to the overall experience. The unclean washrooms and delayed table cleaning detracted from the restaurant's appeal, leaving a less-than-ideal impression.
Another concerning observation was the noticeable food wastage by other diners. While the reasons for this could vary, it raised questions about the overall satisfaction of customers. Personally, witnessing food being discarded is something I find disheartening and certainly not a practice I appreciate in a restaurant.
Furthermore, the mention of politics in relation to the food experience is a concern. A restaurant should be a space where diverse communities come together over a shared love for good food. Bringing politics into the dining experience creates an uncomfortable atmosphere that detracts from the enjoyment of the meal.
In conclusion, Mandi Afandi in Mississauga offers a mixed experience. While the flavors of the meat are commendable, the issues with oiliness, tea quality, cleanliness, and the apparent food wastage give pause for consideration. It is my hope that Mandi Afandi addresses these concerns, as it has the potential to offer a more well-rounded and enjoyable dining experience for patrons from all...
Read moreTerrible customer service experience at this place, from careless staff, to management. This place is overpriced and they are very cheap. The people that run this place are just money hungry and greedy. I am a loyal customer and have been coming to this place often for catering for personal important family events. I ordered the family lamb platter and specified over the phone to please add nuts and raisins and they still managed to forget. I called back to let them know the same to which they claim I never asked for it… then they put me on hold just to come back saying they realized I did ask for it, saying sorry for forgetting even though that is the best part of the rice and it was for an important family event. They tell me to come back just to get the nuts and raisins but I had already drove 15 minutes there and back to pick up the order which cost over $100. Anyhow, I spoke to the owner named Omar who claims he is the “manager” and asked him if he could compensate me with a discount of some sort next time to accommodate for the error on their part and he said “no no this is impossible because many people abuse this policy.” He instead said, they can give me nuts and raisins next time. I asked if he could just deliver them to my house even though the food had already got cold at that point and he was very rude on the phone telling me “not to waste time” then he said okay, but when he came, he claimed he gave me 3 portions of the nuts and raisins but it wasn’t even equal to one portion for a family platter! I attached pictures so you can see how cheap they are. The family platter is big and the tiny “3 portions” he gave me wasn’t even enough for one platter. Never coming back...
Read moreWas enroute to get lunch from a Turkish place and drove by Mandi Afandi. Growing up in the Gulf, I thought it couldn't be, could it? Asked the wife if she was upto trying something either amazing or a possible flop. She was up for something new to her.
It was a random time of the day 3pm, no one eats at this time, too late for lunch. Too early for dinner. I was expecting the doors to be locked, Mandi can't be popular here can it? They maybe out of business already. It wasn't.
Entered and immediately I look to see if there were people inside. Half full....wait, what? How? Why? This is a good sign. Enter 2nd door and I was greeted with smells from the Middle East.
The decor, they have majlis seating....wow. Color scheme, fun, invigorating and yet felt like back home. Let's go for the food. I almost cried when I saw the menu. Most of the things I crave but almost impossible to find. Or I live under a rock.
Order quarter of the menu for 2 people looking for a light lunch. Wait, they have complimentary Gahwa and Shai along with dates?
Staff is friendly and answer questions, which I am sure they get a lot. This isn't just another Kabab and shawarma factory. This is Gulf food, Khaleej food. People either know or is alien to them.
Food was delicious, not quite back home but I'd be foolish to expect that and so would anyone else. Does it hit the spot? Yes?
Can they add a few more Gulf items, like Jereesh and Margoog? Who knows, maybe someday. I am hopeful.
I have nothing negative to say. Extremely happy I stumbled in. They seem to be running it we'll, decor, cleanliness, staff attentiveness and cheerfulness.
