A few years ago, I visited this restaurant and did not have the best experience. Being Jamaican myself I know what to look for when trying foods boasting a Jamaican background. The oxtail was not it. It was chewy and hard and inedible. As such I wrote this place off.

Fast forward a year or so later, I was asked by a friend to pop in and order him some food....everything I asked for was unavailable and this was at lunch time.

Fast forward to present day, my family is visiting from out of town and wanted some Jamaican food. The restaurant has since undergone renovations and to be fair I told them to check it out and judge for themselves.

My SIL ordered one jerk chicken dinner with rice and peas/steamed veggies for my dad. A fried chicken dinner w/ rice and peas for hubby and an ackee and saltfish with boiled dumplings for my brother.

Pros: My brother enjoyed his meal. He questioned why the dumplings were pre-cut. I suggested this is done in case people are on the road and want to quickly eat their food. It's actually pretty good they do this 👍🏾

My dad enjoyed his jerk chicken meal. My dad is very old school and prefers to eat at home. For him to say it was ok/good that is a big deal.

Hubby enjoyed the fried chicken.

Cons: Hubby did not enjoy the gravy that accompanied the rice and peas.

I tried it to ensure he wasn't just being picky but he was right. The gravy had no flavour whatsoever. As such he only ate the chicken and nothing else.

Portion wise everyone was pleased with this aspect. Price wise it is on par for the quantity of food you receive.

The following day I wasn't feeling well and woke up to a container or beef soup. I'm always iffy around soups from restaurants but, this I consumed and it was delicious. It was well seasoned, there was a decent portion of provision/spinners and two decent pieces of beef.

I would definitely try this again.

Overall a much more positive experience food wise from my past...

2nd visit: Had the ackee and salt fish (this is the Jamaican national dish - cool), with steamed veggies, and cooked dumplings. It's served in the small take out box. The salt fish and ackee (ackee fruit, saltfish [codfish], bell peppers, tomato, onion, scotch bonnet pepper, thyme) tasted great. Soft texture (like soft scrambled eggs), creamy, salty, nutty, fishy flavours. The cooked dumpling was meh - I'm going to try fried dumplings next time as my carbs. The steamed veggies were OK, tasted healthier than the coleslaw but I like the coleslaw here more. I thought the ackee and saltfish would come with 1 of the whole fish on the counter, but that's a separate item (mackerel, not on the menu - try that next time). The food portions of this was small, so I would only get this again if I'm in the mood for a light lunch.

1st visit: Had the large jerk chicken (dark meat) with coleslaw and rice and peas. The jerk chicken was well spiced, had jerk sauce. The coleslaw was amazing, creamy, sweet and tangy - this was probably my favourite part of the dish. Rice and peas were good. Everything tasted authentic.

Future: Try the oxtail, curry goat, mackerel (whole fish) curry chicken roti, plantains, and festivals (deep fried Jamaican bread dessert). Carbs: Try the fried dumplings. Veggies: Continue getting the coleslaw.

Will be...

Today was my last time at this potluck location. Typically i come here st lunch time for a quick bite. No matter what time I go, they're always out of something. Patties, festival, plantain, they're always out! None the less I always return. Not anymore! Today I went in with my husband and daughter around 6:30pm when we walked in there was no one around. It seemed like there was no food out left either so we waited for about 5 mins for someone to come out. Confused, my husband said "helloooooo?" in a humorous manner. A woman came out of thr back, looked at us but chose to get her cellphone and make a call as she walked away. She didn't say anything to us. She didn't come back. We left.

Honestly this place has gone DOWNHILL This woman always has an attitude when I go in and this place needs CHANGE. I used to come here for large portions of hot fresh food and now it's lost quality

The ok food doesn't outweigh the terrible customer service and the fact theyre always out of something

Save yourself the headache and go to the hurontario and...

This has to be worst Caribbean restaurant I've ever been to. I originally wanted to order fried dumplings but surprise surprise they didn't have any dumplings. Why is never having enough food a common theme at Caribbean restaurants? Asked to see the menu and the lady said they didn't have a menu to show me. I should have walked out at that point but hungry got the best of me. Ended up settling for ackee and salt fish and festivals. The lady only had two festivals left and the meal usually comes with three. I figured she would have given me a discount since the meal was short one festival but no. She charged me full price, which was $14. Major rip-off! I will never patronize this place ever again or recommend it to anyone! To the restaurant owner, please take a restaurant business 101 course because you need it.

A nice little Caribbean restaurant located in Meadowvale town center. Did you have your standard fare of staple Caribbean food and for the price and how much food you actually get it’s actually a very good value. As the container that I brought home was packed to the brim with food and if you’re not a super heavy eater can last you two meals which I always appreciate. The food was quite good, though nothing too spectacular but because of the value of the meals I can’t argue with that! As a $10 meal here will fill you up more than any $10 meal at any fast food chain
