Taps Public House, though promising, left much to be desired during our Women’s Day celebration. Reservation was for 8:00 pm and we got the table by 8:15 pm. The table is allotted only for 2 hours. We were met with a bustling atmosphere, understandable given the occasion. However, the initial excitement was quickly overshadowed by lackluster service and mediocre fare.
Seated promptly, we eagerly perused the menu, ready to indulge in a selection of drinks and appetizers. Despite our request for a moment to decide, our server was prompt in returning, prompting our order before we had a chance to fully consider our options. This rushed start set the tone for the rest of the evening.
Our selection included two mocktails, a cocktail, chicken wings, burrata, and truffle fries. While the drinks were passable, with a lychee-based cocktail and cucumber-raspberry mocktails providing some refreshment, the same couldn’t be said for the food.
The burrata, served with arugula and tomato salad alongside toasted bread, failed to impress. Priced at $22, the dish fell short of expectations, lacking the creamy texture and flavor one would expect from this indulgent cheese. In an attempt to salvage the dish, we resorted to adding seasoning, but even that couldn’t redeem its blandness.
On the other hand, the truffle fries fared better, boasting freshness and a satisfying crunch. Paired with aioli dip, they provided a simple yet enjoyable accompaniment to our drinks. However, their quality alone wasn’t enough to elevate the overall dining experience.
Despite the food’s shortcomings, the most disappointing aspect of our visit was undoubtedly the service. Our server, seemingly oblivious to our desire for a leisurely evening, continuously pressured us to order more food and drinks. Within minutes of our initial order arriving, she returned, insisting we add to our meal. Despite our polite requests for time to enjoy our current fare, she persisted, disrupting our conversation and causing unnecessary discomfort.
As the evening progressed, her persistence became increasingly grating, prompting us to cut our visit short. With one eye on the clock and the other on our intrusive server, we hastened to request the bill, eager to escape the oppressive atmosphere. However, even this simple task was marred by awkwardness, as our server’s reaction to our early departure left us feeling even more uncomfortable.
In the end, what should have been a joyous celebration turned into a hurried affair, leaving us with little desire to return. While we understand the need for establishments to turn a profit, such aggressive tactics are not the way to treat diners. Despite our explicit instructions to the contrary, our server’s relentless insistence on upselling left a sour taste in our mouths, overshadowing any potential return to Taps...

I was really curious to try this place considering how highly rated it is within Mississauga. After visiting a couple of times, I can definitely see why it gets praise though there are a few things to keep in mind before going. The ambiance inside is great! One of the better interiors that is warm and inviting with decor that sets the mood for a comfortable meal. The patio is also a great option during warm weather as it’s fully covered in shade, making it an ideal outdoor dining spot. One downside is the music inside can be tad bit loud at times which may be distracting for some or just an excuse to turn up? 👺
Service was a mixed bag unfortunately. On one visit for dinner, food took about 25 minutes to arrive though appetizers came quickly. However, when I came for brunch, the service was abysmal, taking well over 30 minutes for one of the simplest dishes to make (one that could probably be done at home in 10 minutes!) Not only that but we were kept waiting for the bill for over 20 mins at one point… so while the staff was friendly, but the inconsistency in wait times was frustrating
This is what we ended up ordering: 1.) Calamari - $19 2.) Truffle Fries - $11 3.) Miso Carbonara - $23 + $7 for chicken 4.) Seafood Linguine - $28 5.) Rikki Bobby House Breakyy - $22
The food here is great with an extensive menu that offers a mix of fusion dishes and classic comfort food which delivers on flavour. For brunch, the rikki bobby house breakyy hits the spot while for dinner, the miso carbonara was by far the best pasta I’ve had in Canada - rich, creamy, and packed with umami. The calamari was tasty though the portion size felt a bit small while the truffle fries offered a generous serving with great flavor. The seafood linguine was also good though it had a slightly strong seafood twang that might not be for everyone
Prices are on the higher side for a few dishes but for the quality and portion sizes, it’s mostly justified. Some dishes feel like a great value, while others like the calamari and rikki bobby house breakyy could offer a bit more for the price
Definitely worth checking this place if you’re looking for a great vibe and solid food! Just be mindful of potential wait times and choose your dishes wisely to get the best value...
Read moreOmg where to start. Went here last night for a double celebration for my girls birthday and another's engagement. We had the BEST time! We were greeted by three amazing ladies at the host stand who were some welcoming and lovely. The music was amazing and the place was bumping. They had a resident DJ who comes in on Fridays and Saturday nights, if you want the full club going out experience I recommend coming then! The owner came out, apologized for the wait which was completely fine and not long at all (make a reservation cause these guys are very busy, as they should be! We had a reservation and just waited for 10-15 mins for our table) he offered my girls some complimentary champagne to get the night started and got me a water since I don't drink. So accommodating and hospitable, he was so nice, funny and great to talk to. He even cleaned our table and was helping the girls out, such a great sign of a wonderful owner and so refreshing to see an owner care for his place and staff. We got seated and met our waitress Tanya. She was an absolute gem, made our night so memorable and was very responsive and attended to all of our needs. She answered our questions so thoroughly and based on service alone we would def have come back again. But omg then the food came 😍 the food was to die for, everything was cooked to perfection! We got the truffle fries, hummus dip, Baratta, bruschetta, fig and brie pizza, prosciutto and arugula pizza and at the end they surprised my girls with some flaming cakes and I got the brownie sundae which was melt in your mouth soft! The manager as well came by to ask how the night was and we couldn't stop gushing over the whole experience. Def recommend all of these dishes. We are 100% coming back for their brunch service. Thank you to the owner, manager, chefs, servers, Tanya, and hostesses for making this night so magical and memorable for us. Can't wait to see you all again! PS. The photo opportunities in this place 😍 they know what...
