An almost hidden Korean restaurant in China Town Montreal, which is underground. And that’s why you may miss it for 4 years😉 Every time I go, the restaurant is packed, ajd the open times are limited. So be sure to check on Google maps before going there. A small plate of kimchi and some tasty potato is served as a complimentary side dish, to taste with your meal. I love their sauté which is served on hot iron cast plates, and when you are served, it’s still sizzling. I like to take a bowl of cooked rice with it, which makes it complete. They have a diverse menu, different Bibimbaps(which i haven’t tried yet ! But I saw on many tables, so it should be good too. They have the Korean alcoholic drink “Soju” which is a beer-like bottle with 15-16% alcohol, and they bring you shot glasses with that, in case you wanna share it with your companies.( unless you’re a heavy drinker, I’d say 1 bottle is enough for 2 people;) Unlike some other restaurants in China Town, whoask for cash or debit, they accept any kind of payment. And I tip usually 20% (it doesn’t make a big difference for me between 15&20%) but I think a minimum 20% is what they deserve, for the quality and their good service. Update: I went there again, and ordered 15. Soon Dobu Jjigae 순두부 (for 16$) Which is a kind of stew containing Silky tofu with pork and seafood, which Congress with a bowl of rice. It was really tasty, and a little spicy. I liked it so much. Near time I’m trying their...
Read moreHad high hopes for this place given the Google reviews but left feeling disappointed. We love trying Korean restaurants and I’ve heard this place mentioned quite a few times. The restaurant no longer offers banchan to reduce costs which was pretty surprising. Instead of offering it on request, they charge a few dollars per side dish which was incomprehensible to me. The food was good but the portions were small for the price point. The tteokbokki was pretty good and the pork and tofu stir fry was good but could have used more pork and tofu for the price. My husband wanted tempura instead of the pajeon and we were super disappointed - we ordered the mixed vegetable tempura and it was just a bunch of chopped veggies in pajeon batter served in clumps. It was mostly batter to veggie ratio which was a disappointment.
Service was prompt but cold. The bathrooms were dirty and grim. I went in before leaving and watched a girl ahead of me and walk in and immediately out. I was surprised to see things like tempura and general Tao on the menu at a Korean place.
Overall, I’ve tried over a dozen Korean places in the city and this has certainly been my least favourite to date. There are certainly better options near Guy Concordia with more authentic menus - this felt like a tourist spot as I don’t understand the ratings here for...
Read moreI feel that this place is a bit hidden, but when I entered the decoration and ambiance were amazing. I ordered spicy rice cake skewer, dumpling and tofu soup. It also came with a bowl of rice and two side dishes: kimchi and potato. All of them taste great. The skewer was crunchy outside and chewy inside, not to sweet with perfect seasoning. Really recommended. The dumpling sauce was so tasty, it was salty and tangy and not to strong to overpower the dumpling flavor.I spent my time looking for the recipe of this sauce, but couldn't find it. The sondubu jiggae was so refreshing, it has tofu, pork, eggs, veggies and seafood. I came on a rainy day, this soup was perfect, I picked the right dish. The side dishes were all tasty, I prefer the potato one than kimchi. The kimchi had a bitter taste at the end, but overall it was good. Some dishes are not listed on menu, but displayed on the wall, such as jajangmyeon and fried chicken. You can always ask the server and order it. Although the ambiance, deco, food and price were excellent, but they have to put emphasize on...
