I am an Asian buffet enthusiast. Before moving to Montreal, it would not be uncommon for me to go to buffets multiple times a week. Every time I visit a new city, I always make a point to go to at least one Asian buffet. I know what they are about and I set my expectations accordingly: you don't go to them for quality food, you go to them for QUANTITY food for cheap. They are not a place to expect steakhouse-like service, but that is okay.
Even after the considerations listed above, this place is sadly still below average. I've been here twice so I can reasonably assume that my experience is what is being consistently offered here.
Service: 1/5 The place seems understaffed for the amount of patrons they had. Aside from the host, I maybe saw 1-2 other servers for the entire restaurant. Customers were seating themselves (although they were supposed to be seated) as the hostess was constantly MIA (clearing tables). On top this, I even saw her consistently clear tables , touching used plates with her gloved hand, and then using the same hand to serve glasses of water- while holding the rim of the glass with the same gloved hand 🤣 Not giving diarrhea to your customers should be the minimum amount of service you should offer lol.
Ambience: 2/5 We all know that this is not the place to go if you want ambience, but it should still be presentable. The floors are grimy and during my first visit there was a very strong acidic scent in the air (I'm not even going to guess what it was). If you're too scared to break up with your significant other, bring them here and they'll break up with you instead.
Food: 2/5 The food is passable, but definitely still below average relative to the other buffets I've been to. While you should never expect a crazy level of quality at these places, there was not a single dish that I could honestly say was a solid winner.
Total score: 2/5 I can only assume that the only reason this place is still in business is the fact that they are the only game in town. I can name at least 10 different places from other cities and small towns that would put this place out of business if they moved in next door. I've been to $10 Asian buffets with only a handful of choices that I would gladly go back to multiple times a week. I will probably not...
Read moreThat was our first and last time there.
At first the lady-manager or a waiter was snapping at us to sit at certain table. We asked for another one as the restaurant was half empty. She was absolutely unfriendly, robotic and inhuman. So we sat where she commanded not to ruin our day.
After I went to the bar to look for food Like many mentioned before, the food looked absolutely disgusting and dry or old. Not appealing at all to say the least. I've asked the lady behind the bar which soup was there. I couldn't see any labels. She totally ignore me me staying there and trying to talk to her. Seems like she didn't understand English . Then suddenly she snapped ' waiter'and pointed at that unfriendly manager. I asked her. And she I barked ' labels on the other side'. I went to the other side. Sure enough there was one label above three soups. So I went for that, at least I figured what it was after good 4minutes of trying. I was with my 3y.o., needed to take her to the bathroom. Obviously we have left everything: our plates, coats, bags. Coming back, I see the lady collected all the plates and wiping the table. I was shocked, I said sorry, we are still eating . Just went to the bathroom. She was nice and said her sorry , offered to bring a new one
The food was average.. We were hungry, so you can eat it, but far from being delicious.
The bathrooms, decor and the whole enchilada was old, horrible and reminded the scary movie. But even that would've been ok if not unfriendly stuff. They need to learn how to smile, treat people like humans, and use a minimum customer...
Read moreRestaurant Jade Chinatown is a popular spot for Chinese cuisine, especially for its all-you-can-eat buffet and dim sum. The restaurant is located in the heart of Chinatown, inside the Place Montréal Trust shopping mall. The restaurant has a large and bright dining area, with a mezzanine that offers fine arts supplies and a ground floor that features creative hobbies, kids' crafts, and custom framing. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they can also help you book a course or workshop at the Studio DeSerres, a space where you can learn new skills and express your creativity.
The buffet offers a variety of dishes, such as egg rolls, sweet and sour spare ribs, General Tao chicken, sushi, and more. The food is fresh and tasty, and you can eat as much as you want for a reasonable price. The dim sum is also delicious, with steamed or fried dumplings, buns, and pastries. The restaurant also has a dessert section, with cakes, ice cream, and fruits. The restaurant is good for families, groups, and couples, as well as for special occasions and events.
I highly recommend visiting Restaurant Jade Chinatown if you are looking for a satisfying and affordable Chinese meal. It is one of the best restaurants in Chinatown for its buffet and dim sum, as well as for its service and ambiance. You can also check out their website for online ordering, gift cards, and more information. You will not...
