Small shop all frozen items. You can easily find their inventory online. They also deliver.
The shop is split up into different subsections, in a single maze like path so you end up going through the entire store.
It's very easy to browse and find things since the shop is pretty small and grouped: Prepared, to share, sides, starters, the "ethnic food" is sort of grouped together instead of being in the "meats" section that includes osso buck and beef cheek (which is... Weird to split them up and osso buco and confit are just identified as meat but butter chicken isn't in meats?), vegetarian, they have deserts, ice cream, waffles, mochi.
The hand written notes on some of the little boards above the fridge give you additional info sometimes (only in French).
They also have a points loyalty program.
The store itself is great but the food is very meh. Alright is the best way for me to describe it. I put some reviews online but they moderate so I'm not sure if it'll show up since my review was fair but unimpressed.
REVIEW OF FOOD ITEMS I TRIED - The fries in duck fat I was hoping would be a new favorite but I don't find it that special. I prefer the Cavendish pepper from the grocery store.
The osso bucco is good but not spectacular. Wish it came with sauce because though tender and well seasoned, it felt a bit dry and incomplete. I didn't keep the duck fat but wish I did to cook with! Perhaps a store bought demi glace sauce would do the trick.
Belgian waffle was delicious, lots of clumpy sugar, maybe a bit too much but I liked it and will only have it once in a while as a treat. It can even be eaten on its own cuz it's quite good.
Truffle lunette: pretty good, though once again no sauce. I had a truffle cream sauce I threw on top that wasn't great from Eataly in Toronto. The truffle lunette from cool & simple was pretty good, though the truffle as it's not fresh is kinda gritty and I tasted the stronger cheese flavor.
This won't be a regular shopping stop for me but I can see myself getting some meats here and there, though I'll have to make...
Read moreI am a big fan of Cool and Simple - high quality stuff and I regularly shop at the Mt. Royal Ave. location. I ended up at Atwater accidentally and while they have an awesome selection, I was perplexed by the customer service manners of the cashier. I hesitated about writing this review, because I will still keep shopping at Mt. Royal Ave who are very kind and helpful, but the cashier at Atwater made me feel so unwelcome with her haughty demeanor, I was left wondering what I did wrong. It is rare to find someone in customer service to be simply unkind - they usually don't do things our way, or miss details, but this was such an obvious lack of basic politeness, I couldn't wait to get out. Summary - great products, and general great service except in that location and that individual. I hope...
Read moreI have been going to this store since it opened. I have always respectfully tied up my dog next to the front door in the vestibule and gone shopping. I was told this is not allowed. Never has been and, while they obliged me this time, it was an exception. The staff was nice about it but I still felt unwelcome. My dog weights 6lbs and is very well behaved. She has wood and not fur coat. I can not leave my dog outside because of the high rate of thief of small cute dogs.
So I did my shopping but next time I come in I will be cashing in my points never to return unless you can assure me I can leave my dog in the vestibule. I await your reply. Sincerely, a...
