As a Belgian, I needed to review the place that claims authentic belgian fries.

So, here it is. I entered the place and was quite frankly underwhelmed by the atmosphere and interior design. It could have been rustic or modern without being fancy. But it's just bland.

The waiters and waitresses are really nice, service is overall good.

Now the important part, the food. Fries are not bad but not cooked in the specific belgian way. They should be cripsy on the outside and soft inside. They are all mushy. They clearly don't use the twice-cooked at different temperatures method.

Finally, I was excited to see the "mitraillette" on the menu that is a belgian specialty. But then i opened the box and it was a side of fries next to a small ciabatta bred with two sad merguez.

The very concept of mitraillette is to serve a big bread full of meat and fries. So 21 dollars for a fake mitraillette is the coup de grâce.

Please Frite Alors, just update your cooking methods and serve us a real mitraillette! Make Belgium...

The cheese they put on the poutine is fantastic, but unfortunately there just wasn’t enough of it. If you get any poutine other than the one that comes with double the cheese, I’d ask for extra cheese (can’t remember if that’s an option when you order online though). The fries are ok, not quite as good as the cheese but not terrible either. The gravy though is where things took a turn for the worst. It just wasn’t that good in my opinion. Mine also had the pulled pork on it, which was fine and a decent serving.

If they can fix the gravy and add extra cheese it would push their poutines to 5 star.

Service was fine, but this is a takeout order placed online. There was an issue with the order not being ready when I came to pick it up, even though we were late to pick it up due to traffic. They claimed there was some issue with the tickets not printing, and thankfully I didn’t have to wait very long (about 10 min). Not sure if that’s a common occurrence or...

Last night I went there for take-out service. Despite being promised a quick 10-minute wait, the reality was far from it. Not only did I end up waiting for around 30 minutes, but the atmosphere inside was chaotic, with unfriendly staff members and children running the show.

Three staff members actually left the restaurant to hang out outside, leaving customers like myself unattended. Upon their return, there was no acknowledgment of the long wait or any effort made to check on the status of my order.

When I finally received my food, it was cold and unappetizing. The burger was mediocre at best, and the fries were disappointingly tasteless. For a bill totaling $50, the quality of both service and food simply did not measure up.

In the end, I told the waitress she was very rude and her response was "K".

First...

This establishment came highly recommended from a friend who has lived in Montreal for 8 years, with a few locations around the island, we were told to patronize the St-Denis location because it has seating and is very kid friendly. The children's menu includes a poutine option for double cheese curds called LA Skouik-Skouik, I strongly recommend asking your child to pronounce it fully if you're not a native Quebecian. The Frites are double-fried Belgian style in beef tallow, which is my favorite way to cook potatoes in general. The 100% Canadian beef burgers are also fantastic. Strongly recommend this location if you're visiting or if you want some of the best poutine in the area (sample size=3).

A lot of the other reviews mention service, so you can add this one to it. The food is fine (portions are smaller than what I expected) but the service is a true let down. We were an age waiting to order. The waitress dropping the food was pleasant. The waitress we paid with straight up left the card machine with us to do the card payment ourselves. She left the machine, walked off to deal with other customers. We waited two minutes for her to return and she never did so we just left after paying and left the machine on the table. There was no “goodbye” from any staff or similar. Just very odd.
