Imagine this: You just arrived in Montreal, staying at a not so great but not too bad hotel for a few days. Your girlfriend and you are hungry, so you decide on a food place for some relief. Now, you’ve lived in Montreal all your life, but recently moved from here to another province. You remember that one place when you were sixteen that just, really knew how to make a good panini. Joes Panini. You tell your girlfriend that they’re amazing, and walk a street down to their tiny little shop. You order three paninis, a mac salad, and a drink. Easy, cheap and smelling delicious. You order the tomato and bocconcini with added pesto, the vegetarian cheese panini with three different cheeses, and the tofu ginger and sesame panini. You also forget to mention you’re a vegetarian, and so is your girlfriend. You make your way to the hotel with your new desirable foods. They’re so hot, and that smell is amazing, it’s hard not to just jump in. Now, for the review. The tomato and bocconcini panini was very good, delicious with a nice hint of pesto to hold it well. Though, the lack of sauce made the panini pretty rough to eat. The tofu panini was incredible, good balance of flavour and vegetables, and an unending hunger for even more. The last panini, perhaps they misunderstood my request (though clarified twice), just got some cheese and vegetables instead of the vegetarian three cheese one. A little sad, but the memories of that place was enough flavour to let me enjoy it nonetheless. The mac salad was, well? Nothing too special. Pretty lacking in any flavour, but it was a good filler. Overall, it wasn’t the same panini I had at 2am with my bestfriend, it wasn’t the same flavours or melted cheese, but it was still incredible and very recommendable. I wish I had maybe clarified the vegetarian cheese panini, but I can’t complain, they could throw a piece of bread at me and I’ll love it. Though, when you get a vegetarian panini, it’s not really vegetarian when there’s meat stuck to the bottom of the panini from previous patrons. At least we aren’t diehard, so we didn’t complain.
4/5. I recommend this late night after some beers, but god is it good whenever you want a nice cozy and friendly location to feed you for an insanely...
Read moreSo there I was, soaked in rain water, when suddenly a tremendous hankering for a bona-fide, meaful hoagie reared it's ugly head. In a panic, I Googled "Steamy meat on bread within 100m" and, whoosh! I was teleported instantly via the interdimensional enzyme, ghrelin, to the hallowed gates of Joe's panini...
Inside this sacred place, I was greeted by man, suspiciously resmbling Jesus of Nazareth (powerful presence, glowing halo) who hearkened to my pleas for the saving grace of the philly cheesesteak sandwich. For the socio-economically aware price of $6, I was presented with a humble white bag. Trembling I took the bag, then promptly retreated out of shame for my hunger-induced bloodshot eyes. I ran down the back alley, famished and wimpering before stumbling into a desolate parkade to begin my reconversion back into a human being.
In the bag, I found the most beautiful sandwich I ever saw, swaddled in foil and dripping from the crease. What transpired next has been described as "Greatest love story of our decade" -NY times, for me and the hoagie embarked on the most beautiful adventure of our lives together. Its seriously yummy contents filled a deep hole within me. With each bite, however, I could sense the sandwich drifting further away. Before I knew it, it was over. It's creamy cheese and succulent steak were but a memory. The toasted buns crunch echoed through my mind as I sat there crying. Why must all good things come to an end?
Yet, during my relationship with this particular hoag, I could feel my soul reach a higher state of existence. I started talking to my dad again, I'm healthier, and I'm really confident in social situations now. This phillycheese steak changed my life, and It was all made possible by St....
Read moreI ordered a Philly cheesesteak and Jamaican patties from here after 2 in the morning and that might be the reason why I had such a bad experience but man, why are you a 24 hour place if you can't ensure quality in the night shift? The top crimped end of the patties had about half an inch of area that looked like it was stuffed with filling but was the bread through and through. The bread was flaky and crispy...which makes me think they microwaved it because the texture was that of microwaved bread that cooled down to give that weird crispiness that isn't enjoyable. The cheesesteak wasn't cheesy...Infact, after the first bite I thought there wasn't any cheese at all but opening the sandwich proved that there technically was some cheese in there...in the second bite, I tasted some of the mayo but I never was able to catch that elusive cheese flavor, nevermind the cheesiness. Also, for a panini place, even though it looked like someone had placed the panini press on top, it felt like they were reluctant to actually press it in fear of the bread hurting the panini press. Also the sandwich was cold...Yes, the weather wasn't warm but I received my order with 15 minutes of pick up so I can't imagine that the food cooled down in transit. Perhaps this was part of somebody else's meal which had been cancelled and was sitting around in the shop for some chump to order it. Such a disappointment, and don't even get me started on the raspberry cake... a 1.25" x 1" cut of sponge cake with some horrid strawberry jam on top. I felt like I'd...
