The Best Dining Experience I've Had in Montreal This Year!

Not a fan of leaving bad reviews, but when you don’t get the value you pay for, it’s gotta be cautioned for anyone else considering this spot. We were a table of 8 with a total bill around 1500$. I will start with the positives. Nice ambiance to the restaurant, valet service satisfies the parking solution, grilled octopus was great. The negatives: Service is way too slow for a restaurant asking customers to pay these prices. Multiple times, servers would be seen just hanging around and talking huddled up to each other and we would have to make a sign to come see our table. Definitely not the service we were expecting. From what we ordered, we ordered oysters which were standard, but along with the grilled octopus we ordered their so called “signature” sea bass which was overpriced and overrated for what it was. In the end, it seemed pretty basic. Just a sea bass fish cut open with a couple different sauces on it and to the side. Nothing special about it. The servers hype you up with it but it’s not worth it. Just a heads up, don’t fall for the same trap! Back to the service, it would be appreciated if the servers are fully bilingual. Even though I am trilingual, If I choose to speak in English and was being responded in French, it does not reflect well on the service potential. I could understand if it was McDonald’s but at this price tag, it would be great to choose to communicate in the customer’s preferred language between English and French. That effort was absent. Valet service could be quicker both upon arrival and upon leaving. Waiting 15 mins for your car when there are at least 2 valets is a bit too much to wait. I would gladly pay these prices at a restaurant providing price reflecting dishes and high end service. It’s a little sad cause this place has potential to be better. But my bottom line: I am one and done with this one.

I feel like two stars is quite generous considering my less than acceptable experience. The marketing for this restaurant is great which is what pushed me to try it out. I definitely believe they rely heavily on their marketing for their traffic because their food and service will not bring me in there for a second time. I had a party of three and was only brought two menus. Not a big deal but that was only the start of a terrible experience. Throughout the whole night, our water glasses were only refilled twice. When my friend asked for a bottle to be brought over and kept at the table, it was to my surprise that we were charged for the water. (Great business model I guess - keep your guests dehydrated so they’re forced to purchase water) As for food, all of the 1 star reviews are true. Please believe it. Our $59 octopus plate was for the most part potatoes. I am so glad to have paid a 1000% mark-up for a pound of potatoes. The lobster risotto was simply bad and caused a stomach ache for my party of three. None of us have lactose intolerance or shellfish allergies so I am almost 100% sure the cause was due to poor food handling. Tuna Tartare was alright. I would have rather walked a few more blocks to get sushi from SHUSHU if I’m going to be honest. At least then, I would’ve actually enjoyed the taste. To top the night off, our server became hostile after not receiving a tip from one of the guests in my table. I think it’s very important to reflect if your service was actually decent to begin with before throwing a tantrum at guests who received less than decent service. If I’m going to be honest, I absolutely regret even tipping the amount that I did after seeing how the server acted.

I have to say the food was absolutely amazing, but I'm really disappointed with the service. First, our food came out in three batches, so we had to awkwardly watch each other eat while waiting. I ordered a surf and turf with my steak cooked medium-well, but it came overcooked, I would even say it was more than well-done. They also messed up my father side dish TWO times. He ordered mashed potatoes and served him fries the first time and then a sweet potato before giving him the right side dish. We never got any kind of apology from the staff. Also, my mother had to wait an hour and a half for her fish, we think they probably forgot her order. Usually we wouldn't say anything, but my mother is a diabetic and it can get quite dangerous for her to wait 45 minutes for her food after her insulin injection. Lastly, we were charged two times for the Surf and Turf, but nowhere in the menu is it written that this plate is for two person and that they charge the amount times two. We gently asked our server for an explanation and she answered us "you should've asked me if it was for one or two". We went to Grinder a few months ago and it was clearly written on the menu there. When we simply suggested that they add this detail on their menu to avoid confusion, she went to talk to her manager, came back and just dropped the credit card machine on our table without an apology or an explanation. We are not cheap people and it truly did not bother us to pay for it, we just wanted details to better understand our bill and make sure that it was only a miscommunication and not a mistake. However, I found it extremely insulting the way the staff treated us when we asked for an explanation. The restaurant was empty as it was a tuesday night and even so the service was terrible. I won't be coming back. I'm usually not a picky client, but when we pay over a 100$ per person the least we expect is...
