Warning : do not come here for a birthday , especially for a double birthday., this will be a long candid review
We went to this restaurant since my mom ( one of the birthdays) was recommended this restaurant and we love trying food so we figured why not. The staff consisted of a really nice older gentleman, a brunette and blonde waitress.
The first issue : We first dropped off my mother and grandmother ( who had a clear tag of low visibility/blindness on her) had an issue with the seating. They had wanted to place us ( made a reservation for 5) on a 4 seater table with a chair on the edge glued to the wall. It was explained to them that we would need extra space as we are 5 and with someone with low visibility, therefore requiring extra space. The blonde waitress , said that they had a reservation for a big party coming in after us and couldn't give us the bigger table ( which would have fit 5 people comfortably, not glued to the wall); however the brunette waitress checked and said there were no other reservations so we were able to get the big table; great.
Once we were seated, the elder gentleman came over to explain to us briefly the menu and asked what we'd want for appetizers ( we ordered each momo except the shrimp ) to try & then he said he would go prepare them.
Waited another 20 mins since it seemed that our waitress ( blonde) didn't want to help us but came and took our order. I want to make note that she did not check on us once during the whole service to ask if the food was good or if we needed anything else; instead her amazing colleagues did.
Food : Momos: were all very good, personally I wasn't a fan of the cheese one since it was sweet but still very good
Churu Soup- probably the most underwhelming experience, the blue cheese was there and lamb but it was completely unseasoned no matter how much I mixed it. I then decided to drink from the bowl directly to notice towards the end that all the spices were at the bottom but not mixed into the soup
Sha-Kat-Sta- the best and most flavourful dish out of the whole evening, would recommend
Vegetarian Curry- flavour was very bland & we asked for spicy but was given mild, the brunette waitress was kind enough to get us extra hot chili to mix into it .
Timo- very interesting texture and flavour , tastes really good when you dip into the curries , would recommend
Naan- so a lot of reviews on Google and yelp said that it was Costco brand naan, however we checked it and can tell that it was home made, a bit too charred but good
Steamed rice - opt out if you can, very inconsistent with the two bowls that we've received
Chow mein: the birthday girl was really disappointed. My dad made sure to ask for extra crispy noodles, however as you can see in the pictures , not a single crispy noodle in sight. We told my mom we can ask to send back to the kitchen to have it fixed , however it was nearly impossible to even get our waitress attention ( the blonde one) to do that so we just ate it.
There are a few event dishes to try, but the service is not worth it as a sit down experience, which is disappointing considering you have the Spanish Club, Sabor Latino and Darlings surrounding that area.
To the waitress, I've done food service before as mentioned in a few of my other reviews, but you definitely need to smile more and put more effort , we all are going through it but please don't let it reflect in your job to...
Read moreI had the displeasure or dining here with some of my friends, and trying momos for the first time. I tried the chicken momos and chicken chowmien. The flavour of everything we ate there, including sauces, complimentary soup and dips, can be summarized in two words - bland and/or sweet. I regret choosing this spot to have my first momo as it quite literally tasted like nothing, and the only option i had was to dip it in the three options of sweet sauces we were given. The chicken chowmien had a strong cashew-like flavour which also gave it a sweet taste instead of the expected savoury/spicy flavour. The noodles were of the wrong type and the vegetables and garnishing were cut too big to fit in a normal persons mouth. Now on to customer service, upon arrival, we pointed out that one of the napkins on the table had a spider on it. The waitress proceeded to swat it away and placed the same napkin back on the table, expecting us to use it. The waitress refused to let us finish our sentences before she assumed what we wanted and ran off (yes, this happened multiple times) and this obviously caused a lot of confusion among us. When we asked for the bill, we asked her to split it in a certain way. Again, she refused to even try to understand what we were saying and she came back with two bills split exactly halfway, instead of four (2 of us had split momos and chowmein, and the other two had only had momos). I offered to pay one of the bills and have my friend reimburse me for half of it. The POS terminal had 3 tipping amount options as well as a “no tip” option. I chose the latter due to the following reasons: It is not fair to my friend to reimburse me more money simply because i chose a certain tip amount. If the waitress had communicated with us and brought us our own bills, it probably wouldve been a different outcome. The food didnt deserve to be tipped as it was mediocre at best. The service was among the worst ive had in the city. Tipping is a gratuity and an optional choice. I chose not to tip because i didnt want to. The old waitress began arguing with me, saying that it is necessary that i tip when i go to a restaurant because they have to pay taxes. I mentioned that if she wanted to guarantee tips every time, she shouldn’t have the no tip option on the POS machine and/or she should have the menu specify that tipping is compulsory in that particular shop. She asked if i was from Quebec and i told her that that shouldn’t matter and frankly, thats none of her business. She responded by saying that i shouldnt be dining there again; i agreed, and we happily left. I hope she and the management read this next part: According to the Consumer Protection Act, you cannot force me to tip. I tip when i want to, and only if i believe that the person receiving the tip provided me a good product/service. You did neither. You claiming that tipping is compulsory conflicts with both law and logic. You should learn what a tip means as well as brush up on Quebec laws. The “No Tip” option is legally required so you legally cannot stop me from choosing it. If its an option, its fair play. It is a protected consumer choice. Saying that the restaurants taxes justify forcing a tip is misleading and plain wrong. As of 7th May, the law explicitly states that taxes should not be considered for tip suggestions. My only suggestion for the restaurant is that they invest in...
Read moreI usually don’t leave one star reviews but I truly feel like my experience at this restaurant deserves one. My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant about 1.5 hours before closing on a Saturday night. We were worried the restaurant would be busy given its location, but when we arrived there was a group of 4 paying their bill, and a big group on the patio drinking. When we stepped into the restaurant we were greeted by the owner and decided to sit on the patio. The owner gave us our menus and water and said he would be right back for our orders. We reviewed the menu and chatted amongst ourselves until we finally realized we had been waiting for over 30 minutes… We went inside and as soon as the owner saw us he said he forgot about us and apologized. We ordered to-go and he recommended us some off the menu items. He told us to sit back outside and he will give us some of the order because the momos would take another 15 to make. When we finished what was served, he came out again and we asked for the bill, then the female waiter came out with the bill.
I found it odd that the female waiter came out instead of the owner who we had dealt with the whole time. Also considering the restaurant was close to empty when we were served. The owner did not comp any dishes we ordered nor did he comp the additional items he recommended us to order that was off menu.
Food: the momos were very small and mediocre. The Sha-Kat-Sa wasn’t well seasoned, the owner had also said he would give us hot sauce on the side but he didn’t give us any. The soup, the side breads, and empanadas were good.
Overall, not a good experience at all. The time and money we spent here was not worth the quality of food...
