We were looking forward to this meal both because of the ratings we had seen and the renowned view. Well… at least the view was good. For us, the food and atmosphere was that of a quintessential “Tourist Trap.” Now, before I get into why this place was SO disappointing, I do want to give a shout-out to the staff, particularly the host staff who were absolutely wonderful, kind and accommodating. Too bad the food isn’t worthy of their excellence. Despite their wonderful demeanor, the overall service was rather slow, but that was well beyond their purview from what we could tell. We started the evening with two Aperol Spritzes. The traditional Aperol Spritz is three parts prosecco, two parts Aperol and one part club soda. They were not very good and I’m pretty sure there was almost no prosecco in our $16 drinks. For dinner, I ordered the Manhattan steak at $58. With the sauce it was, indeed, tasty, but nowhere worth the price – even if it were 50% off!! It was just “okay” as far as high-dollar steak dinning goes. The dish also came with steamed vegetables and halved fingerling potatoes. Both were very ordinary and the vegetables were very plain, unseasoned, overcooked and cold. There was baby broccoli, asparagus, quartered zucchini and one green bean. I don’t know about you, but when I’m paying top dollar, I expect some seasoning, sauce or special flavor to the vegetables other than their natural flavor from steaming. They were quite dull and disappointing. My wife had the flank steak, which was also good, but unremarkable and, again, nowhere near worth the price. If you want a place for a nice view and overpriced drinks and food, you’ll love it here. However, it’s is very, very crowded, and quite loud as well. I don’t know why operators of such venues have to have loud music playing, because almost NO ONE goes there to listen to music. We go to enjoy the company of others, which is harder to do when you have to shout and strain to hear with others are saying. Also, IMHO, if you are over 50, you’re not nearly cool enough for this venue – I don’t care if you’re Tom Scientology-Poster-Boy Cruise, you won’t fit. Now, I’m not adverse to a high dollar meal, but I DO expect to get my money’s worth. Terrasse William Gray didn’t come close to that. I wouldn’t recommend it and wouldn’t go back even if...
Read moreWe went here the first day of terraces opening, but unfortunately did not enjoy it very much.
The positives: ambiance, location, and our wonderful service.
The negatives: the food.
We are people who like good quality food, but will enjoy almost anything as long as it is tasty. Unfortunately we enjoyed almost nothing we ordered- bad luck- but also bad quality meals for a steep price. If we hadn't liked the food but the price had been cheaper, and the food better quality, I would have given this place a high rating.
Unfortunately the cheese plate was highway robbery. I forget the exact price- but for a sad selection of Walmart quality cheeses and some nuts and a few selections of pate- I think it was very overpriced. Our main complaints were that the flavours were uninteresting, and the food was bland We had the goat cheese salad and squid as appetizers. I did not like the squid, I thought it was overcooked, and that seasoning was not great. For the main course we had the lamb pasta (a mistake) which wasn't awful or inedible, just not my favourite, and the beef tartar which was our favourite dish overall, but still poorly flavoured for a tartar. We usually don't mind small portions, but found these portion sizes excessively small.
Two stars, because I think I should have realized this terasse is more about the view and the drinks thanthe food experience, but not a higher rating because I really feel like the quality and taste is not acceptable...
Read moreBad experience. Booked well in advance (months). Confirmed the reservation twice. Got an email saying we would be seated at the adjacent terrace instead of the main terrace. Not what we had booked but ok. Once we arrived they could nit find our reservation. “Are you sure you reserved at hour restaurant?” Showed the reservation and then they ‘remembered’. “Didn’t you get a call today that you were moved to our other restaurant?” Eh no. Later it showed that the day of the reservation the restaurant cancelled the reservation and made a reservation for us(?) at it’s sister restaurant. Once we complained the receptionist uttered that there was this big party who booked the whole terrace but that the food in the sister restaurant was better anyway and that the William Gray would find a way to compensate us. From somebody working in hospitality we would not expect them to talk down on their own restaurant like that. Also, after eating at Perché (which was ok which can also be said from the staff) we didn’t notice any compensation. All in all what should have been a fine dining experience during an hour or 3 turned out to be a very disappointing 75 minutes. We tipped the Perché staff because they tried. But can’t recommend Terrace William Grey because if how they treat their guests who bokked...
