We had a very nice time at this new theatre seeing Jerry Seinfeld last week. He was awesome as was the opening act, whom I cannot recall his name but also from New York. Jerry truly is the master of observational humour and displayed it brlliantly for a nice 1 hour show. The sound system is quite good in this theatre as well which was great for a comedy performance where hearing the dialogue is obviously crucial. Especially since we were in the 2nd balcony.
There are elevators to help get you to the higher balcony sections which was important. as I was with someone that has mobility issues.
The reason I'm giving 3 stars is because of the balcony section. It is extremely steep and seems quite far from the stage. This was an issue for me and for my mother. I suffer a bit of motion sickness (have rare bouts of vertigo) so I found it quite dizzying looking down at the stage even before the show began. Once the show began I spent most of my time watching the two massive screens that were mounted high above the stage on either side that gave a great view of the performance and felt much less dizzying to watch. My mother told me after the show that she too was feeling a bit dizzy and mostly watched the screens as well and she's not normally as prone to motion sickness as I am.
It also took an extremely long time to exit the theatre. From the balcony there is basically only one exit and there was a long bottleneck trying to get out. So we just sat back down and waited several minutes until the crowd dissipated.
So overall this is a really nice theatre. The sound system is excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful guiding you to the elevators and the seats themselves. However, if you suffer from even mild motion sickness, vertigo or have an issue with heights, then I will caution you to avoid sitting the in balcony as we unfortunately did. That certainly put a damper on my overall experience. If I ever were to return, I would have to sit in the lower section. That is if I could afford the tickets and the outrageous fees charged by the various seller of tickets to these types of event. Not entirely the fault of the theatre so not part of my review. Just a...
Read moreLiterally soooo mad. Just had the worst time at the comedy show tonight. Three women sitting next to my party got WASTED, talked, we’re on their phones, literally shouting at the comedians. They also got up 6 times each in about an hour and a half. My group complained 3 seperate times, combined spent $270 on tickets (or about) plus drinks at the event and the 3 women next to us talked the entire show. At the end, I said something directly and some other guy who was annoyed said something directly to the girls. They did not shut up and did not leave so I went and got security. Security told me they weren’t going to do anything and waved me off. The girls finally left but with 10 minutes remaining in the final comedians set. So your telling me, your security couldn’t remove them to save 15-20 peoples night?
Ps. Michael, the Lane attendant was very polite and went and got security several times.
Also note - I was not IDed, I did not see anyone get IDed and the women were well beyond over served. security likely didn’t do anything because they were over served.
Update: I was contacted by Ken, the manager of the security department - I was contacted and so was a friend of mine. We gave him all the details and were told we would get an update on the progress. My friend, who put the tickets on her card, got a call from someone else and we were told even though security did not do their jobs, we would not get any money back or any sort of fix because it was an "acceptable loss and not uncommon occurrence" to OLG Stage. We have never been contacted again and it has been two weeks.
I think it's funny though that two weeks later, they post a response, trying to make it look like we were contacted. I have spoken to someone via phone, told that security did not do their jobs and yet nothing...
Read moreWe saw Big Wreck/Thornley this past week. The seating capacity is 5000 seats (I think?). The shape of the seating area is excellent. No blind spots that we could see. The theatre configuration is gently sloped, a bowl-shaped auditorium. The seating curves downward toward the stage, which makes for a good view from every angle. Above, a balcony level extends the seating capacity. Not sure how it was up there? There was 1 screen on the upper left, and 1 on the upper right hand side showing close-up views in high definition if you didn't have a close up view. Remote controlled cameras mounted at the front of the stage, filmed the players throughout the show which was then displayed up on those 2 screens. The sound was good (slightly overdriven at the beginning) but got better later in the show. (Bring earplugs just in case. I'm glad I did!) Lighting is good. Washrooms were clean. Staff were friendly/helpful. One improvement, would be to make the signage for OLG stage MUCH clearer! We saw just one small sign with an arrow at a small door to the tunnel. There were a LOT of people walking around (like us) wondering if they were going the right way to get to the theatre. From the casino, you'll need to cross the enclosed glass bridge that crosses above the road. Turn left, then proceed upwards (alongside another bar/restaurant), then turn right, then eventually right again. There are no signs along that route. About a 5 minute walk. Other than that, an excellent venue! I'd go back for sure. Oh, and park all day for $10 at the base of the "Skylon" tower across the road! (Looks like a little CN tower) Everywhere else is more expensive. Lots of parking available. (Attached are one shot of the stage, and one of the...
