I was going to Lynn Canyon and I wanted some fast food for lunch (because I woke up too late to go to a proper restaurant) and saw this place had a good rating. Apparently it was rated Vancouver’s Best Poké for two years in a row by Straight Golden Plates. I got Steve’s Traditional Bowl for $20.70 (mini), plus a cold tea drink for $5. The traditional bowl only has protein, and no other toppings (e.g. seaweed salad, edamame, corn, crab, etc.), and the employee there told me that’s how it’s traditionally prepared in Hawaii. I thought the price was a bit expensive, but you do get more protein (4 scoops of salmon / scallop / tuna of your choosing), which is more than other places, so I guess it’s kind of fair. The other bowls with 2 scoops of protein and other toppings are around ~$17. I enjoyed the poké, but it’s hard not to. I do like that this place offers a scallop option, as I usually only see salmon and tuna being options.

I came here at their grand opening to have my favorite spicy salmon poke bowl and unfortunately had some issues with the salmon chunks that I had (just tasted differently than what I usually have at their Metrotown’s branch). I’ve always been a fan of Steve’s Poke Bar’s poke, and not even exaggerating, but I’ve probably had more than 50 bowls of it so I know when irregular stuff happens. The customer service and the branch owner, Eddie, swiftly reached out to me to address my concerns and got me a complimentary bowl in response to it. The team welcomed me and handled the order superbly this time. Big props to Eddie and the team for the excellent customer service. Thanks so much for the kind gesture, this is what sets Steve’s Poke Bar aside from other Poke Bars. Fresh ingredients + great customer service. I really appreciate it and kudos again to the North Van branch folks!

This North Van Steve’s Poké Bar nails it every time. Just a couple blocks up from the Shipyards and Lonsdale Quay, one block in on 3rd off Lonsdale. Super easy to find, and there’s plenty of free street parking. The crew is awesome! Super friendly, quick, and always ready with solid suggestions if you’re in the mood to try something new. My go-to is spicy tuna with mango on rice. It’s rich, spicy, and balanced with that little pop of sweetness. Always super fresh, never heavy, and full of flavour. I usually throw on the feature scoop too, I love trying their newest creations. Also, don’t sleep on the cold teas. The lychee one is light, and super refreshing, one of the best drinks I’ve had in a while. If you’re into bold flavours and good energy, this is the spot. We finally have great Poké on the North Shore.

Loved the food.. but that’s the only reason for the two stars. Had a really bad experience with the person making my food which is a shame because I’ve heard so many good things about Steve’s Poke Bar from others.

I first saw the person handling my food touch their phone and the cash register without wearing gloves proceed to prepare my poke bowl. I thought, ok I guess that’s fine since it’s not like they’re touching the actual food- until they did and their long nails kept touching the rice as they were mixing the food?? When confronted about it, they didn’t apologize but rather responded in a condescending tone about remaking the food.

I was really looking forward to the meal but it wasn’t a great overall experience personally. I’m not even looking for an apology or anything at this point, I just hope others don’t have to experience this and hope cleanliness and food handling is at least addressed a little bit. Truly hoping I can write a 5 star review the next time I visit because the food...
