Nestled near Lonsdale, Sushi Kumo promises a haven for sushi enthusiasts, including the adventurous vegetarians among us. As a fellow risk-taker in life's culinary adventures due to seafood allergies, I dared to venture into this quaint establishment, and I'm glad I did.

Food Quality (5/5): Each bite of the Avocado roll, Cucumber Roll, and Veggie Roll was a testament to the chef's dedication to perfection. The rice, cooked to just the right consistency, cradled fresh, vibrant vegetables that were a delight to the palate. Not a hint of browning or toughness, a common pitfall in many rushed sushi joints.

Price-Value Ratio (4/5): While prices may tilt towards the higher end compared to nearby alternatives, the superior quality justifies every penny spent. When it comes to sushi, I firmly believe that quality should never be compromised for the sake of savings.

Ambiance (4/5): Simplicity meets style in Sushi Kumo's ambiance. Though modest, the decor exudes a certain charm that complements the dining experience.

Service (3/5): Unfortunately, the otherwise stellar experience was marred by lackluster service. The pace was sluggish, with no check-ins to inquire about our needs. Water and tea remained unrefilled, a disappointing oversight that detracted from the overall enjoyment. It was disheartening to observe preferential treatment towards certain patrons, a stark contrast to the egalitarian spirit of hospitality.

Final Verdict: Despite the service hiccup, Sushi Kumo remains a gem worth revisiting. For vegetarian sushi aficionados seeking impeccable quality, this is the place to be. Just be prepared to exercise patience and perhaps a gentle reminder for a refill...

Have eaten several times here - picking up, eating in, and via delivery - since moving to N. Van nearly a year ago but I think it's already going downhill!

On January 1 wanted to order from them via Uber at 5:20pm. They weren't accepting "current" orders, but they were accepting "scheduled", so we placed an order for delivery between 6:45-7:15, thinking okay, it's New Years Day, they're busy, that's fine. It immediately said "order received by restaurant". At 6:25 this hadn't changed to "order being prepared" so getting a bad feeling I called Sushi Kumo directly. Someone very politely answered and after I gave them my wife's name, they said, unprompted, "Yes, we have your order, it'll be ready for 6:45pm" and hung up. At 6:35 we get a message on Uber saying "the restaurant cancelled your order". I immediately call them and reached a totally different person who was incredibly rude. I asked "Hey, what's the deal with our order being cancelled?" "You'll have to talk to Uber". "But it says that you cancelled it and I just spoke to someone that confirmed--" "You'll have to talk to Uber" "Okay, I'd like to just order from you directly and I'll come pick it up" "Sure but It'll be an hour before it's ready". Yikes.

Yeah, not interested. You guys lost customers who were eating your sushi monthly. Lose the disrespectful woman on the phone and figure out your order logistics and maybe...

This place took over one of my fave sushi places in the area. After craving sushi and seeing this place newly opened, I thought I'd check it out. The interior is super nice, and the staff are friendly. However, the food is very subpar and below mediocre. For the ambience of the restaurant, I really expected better food.

The sushi is not very authentic. The rice was terrible, the sushi pieces were not cut evenly (an indicator of a well-trained sushi chef), and the tamago was not made in house. The avocado roll is not thinly sliced instead, it's chopped up haphazardly and served in kind of a mediocre way. This place is super cheap for sushi, which is one of the caveats to the mediocre quality of sushi. But even then, I have had better cheap sushi.

The staff can be a bit intimidating, especially having asked us how our food was at least 6 times in the course of an hour. They were watching us like hawks and I didn't like that. Otherwise, it was an okay experience, and I'd only come back if there were nothing...
