We had a wonderful experience at Royal India Gate last night, diving into Kerala cuisine for the first time. We weren't familiar with the dishes, but the waitstaff were incredibly patient and welcoming, guiding us through the menu and explaining each dish in detail, which made us feel at ease.
We started by ordering the Pazhampori combo, a fried banana dish we were excited to try, but when it turned out to be unavailable, they offered a replacement of banana puffs instead. The substitution was spot-on—crispy, flavorful, and a great way to start the meal.
For mains, we tried the mutton biryani and the fish curry meal. The mutton biryani was phenomenal! The rice was perfectly cooked, the mutton was tender and succulent, and the spices were well-balanced, delivering a satisfying, authentic taste. The fish curry meal was also delicious, with every component complementing the dish beautifully. However, we felt that a bit more curry would have made it even better, especially considering the price. The meal also included moorkozhambu (a spiced buttermilk-based curry), which was absolutely outstanding and a unique addition that enhanced the meal experience.
As a wonderful surprise, we discovered it was the chef's birthday, and the restaurant generously offered us a complimentary dessert—a slice of cake that was a delightful finishing touch to our meal. It was a thoughtful gesture that made the evening feel extra special.
Overall, Royal India Gate delivered an exceptional experience with excellent service, authentic flavors, and thoughtful hospitality. We look forward to returning to explore more of their Kerala-inspired menu! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to try something unique...
Read moreI recently tried Royal India Gate in Wyandotte and was pleasantly surprised by their offerings, especially the Egg Puffs and Beef Biryani.
The Egg Puffs were a perfect appetizer—crispy, flaky pastry with a deliciously seasoned boiled egg filling. The balance of spices inside the puff was spot on, giving each bite a burst of flavor without being overwhelming. It had just the right level of crispiness on the outside while maintaining a soft, warm center.
Moving on to the Beef Biryani, this dish was truly the highlight of the meal. The rice was perfectly cooked and fragrant with traditional spices, while the beef was tender and well-marinated, blending beautifully with the flavors of the biryani. The portion was generous, and each spoonful was packed with bold, aromatic spices that gave the dish a rich, authentic taste.
Overall, I highly recommend trying these dishes if you're looking for a satisfying Indian meal. The quality of food at Royal India Gate is excellent, and I’ll definitely be returning to explore more...
Read moreWe ordered Chicken Biryani and Chicken curry from this restaurant and it was one of the worst experiences we’ve had. The Biryani was a disaster – the rice wasn’t even basmati, just low-grade rice, and the gravy tasted like raw onion paste. The chicken piece in the biryani was undercooked, which is unacceptable.
As for the Chicken Curry, it was no better. The pieces were smelly, and the gravy was watery with zero flavor. It felt like no effort or care went into the preparation.
For the price we paid, this quality is shocking. We would never recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere else if you’re looking for good Indian food!
