Awesome meal options at better prices than other Asian places in Kingston (though portions are a little small to compensate). Crispy chicken and marinated minced pork are probably the most authentic Taiwanese you can find in this city.
Edit: Reviewing all my favorites to celebrate the return of my beloved Green Onion Pancakes: although the authentic Asian preparation is pan-fried, I am a convert of their deep-fried version, extra delicious when dipped with the sweet-spicy sauce provided.
Crispy Chicken: fried chicken heavily seasoned with black pepper, great combination with the same sweet-spicy sauce as above.
General Tso's Chicken: fried chicken over rice; their sauce is definitely on the sweet side (and NOT the same sauce as above).
Beef with Rice: sweet-savory sliced beef most similar to a Japanese gyudon (teriyaki beef not oft found in Kingston as we usually see bulgogi, which uses thicker barbequed beef slices)
Special-made Beef with Rice: beef chunks from a "rough flank" cut (similar to the western brisket) braised in a spicy gravy-like sauce.
Marinated Pork with Rice: chunks of minced pork marinated in a very authentic sauce; THE street food staple recreated in Kingston!
Chef Special Fried Rice: great wok-fried dish with sauteed chicken chunks; note - this is NOT the fish-sauce heavy Cantonese variety.
Fried Udon: classic chow-mein type stir-fry but with udon in place of wheat noodles or rice noodles; I like it with...
Read moreThis place is a shell of its former glory. For me, this used to be THE go-to spot for Pad Thai. I love Pad Thai and I have tried the dish from as many restaurants in Kingston as I have been able to over the years, but I always came back to Classic's for more; especially for my birthday or any other special occasion.
I haven't eaten here for a few years, though, because their hours are a bit weird and haven't aligned with my schedule in a while. I did manage to grab my go-to order today, however... Beef Pad Thai with a Watermelon Milk Tea. I have no idea what happened to this place.
The Pad Thai was dry, barely enough sauce to coat the noodles. The noodles were stuck together like glue and looked as if they'd been stored in one of those air-tight packages for a while. The beef was overly fatty with a significantly higher portion of fat than beef, I picked out most of it and threw it away. There were no bean sprouts, either.
The Watermelon Milk Tea is as I remember it, if not a little weaker.
I'll be seeking out another place now. Honestly, Thai Express in the mall is better than this place now. I don't know if the pandemic hit them hard, but for $30 w/delivery I can't really afford to take the risk on them again. I'll go elsewhere for my bubble tea too, since there are new...
Read moreI love their bubble tea, but the food options are such a let down. They lack a lot of vegetarian options, and what they do have is unclear. I order steam vegetable dumplings and almost everytime it looks like there is meat in it? You get a vegetable dumpling and expect vegetables not meat. I even specifically said "vegetables please" or "no meat" on multiple occasions. I ordered the kimchi ramen and got a broth with chicken in it, when it never stated there was meat in the order and again, I specifically said no meat please. A courtesy call would be nice next time,if you need to better explain your menu. I literally just spent 30 dollars on 1 bubble tea because I couldnt eat the rest of my order. This has happened to me before, and I will no longer order from here....
