Stepping in from the bustle of Bank Street, we were greeted by music gently ebbing through this dim and charming restaurant. The atmosphere immediately felt warm and cozy and the decor was regal; mostly adorned in black and gold. Our server was cheery and helpful, the menu had a selection that could only be fully explored over multiple sittings. We ordered a simple starter; Spring Rolls, which were huge in size, savoury and crisp. Our mains came after, in delightfully ornate dishes, with tender rice. But it was more than we could finish and our server was pleased to see we wanted to take it home with us. Would recommend to anyone! Can’t wait to return.

I used to go to social Thai before their recent upgrade. The food was alway delicious and the service is consistent. They are now more of a causal dining space with Thai food and a cafe. I really like the new vibe and the shorter menu. They do have some gluten free options which is great- but they are not indicated on the menu so just ask one of the people at the front. When I went in this time I got a gluten free pad Thai with shrimp and it was perfect. It has the right amount of sweetness and topped with crunchy cashews and bean sprout. Next time I go in I am eager to try more options and also give their coffee and pastries a try!

We had a nice dinner here. Warm ambience and a decorative setting make this place unique. I especially enjoyed the different frame designs on the wall and the gold lotus ceiling lights. For the food, we had the curry abd pad thai. I’m on a mission to find the best pad thai in Ottawa and I can say that this one certainly makes it in the top 3. Be warned, the menu is a bit pricier than your typical thai restaurant, and prepare to pay 5$ for an extra bowl of rice. The portion of pad thai they serve here is not that big; although it was just right for me, people with bigger stomachs might want to consider ordering some appetizers.

We’ve had Social Thai twice: once in person and today as takeout. The first time we went we had the Tofu Pad Thai and the Beef Pad Sew Ew. Both were extremely salty, but the overall taste was good, however the portions were quite small.

However, our experience for takeout was extremely disappointing. A Tofu Pad Thai, Beef and Chicken Pad Sew Ew, and the Tiger Shrimp Spring Roll appetizer. Total Cost $62 - which is a very high premium for the amount of food we received. I paid for extra chicken and had to literally dig through the meager amount of food to see where any of my proteins were. Barely any Chinese broccoli, carrots that seem to be used as fillers, and I asked for spicy and got beyond mild. The 5 $12 Tiger Shrimp Spring Rolls were essentially the size of 5 cigarettes.

I can’t justify having spent over $60 for an amount of food that a $14 Thai Express dish would be triple the amount of food that we received combined. It’s difficult to understand the premium that you are paying for this restaurant. The amount of food is insulting for the price. There is NOTHING that justifies $20 for a Pad Sew Ew with such a small amount noodles, protein and even vegetables.

You should be able to feed 3-4 people with the price we paid and it wasn’t enough for a single person, and this seems to be the general consensus in the reviews and it’s not an exaggeration at all.

I don’t really see how the price of their dishes are justified. It’s not to say that the food is not tasty, there just isn’t enough substance to charge $7-9 over other restaurants which provide food that taste probably close to as good and 3-4 times the...

A friend and I both got the Pad Sew lunch special. The food itself was quite decent - the soup was sweet and flavorful, and and the pad sew was yummy. The price for the lunch special was reasonable.

The service was disappointing, however; the waitress didn't know anything about the menu or the dishes, and couldn't answer any of our questions when we were deciding what to order. All she could say to our questions was "All the dishes are different. What's that dish like? It's different"...which wasn't helpful in the least. The kicker was when the waitress approached us with the Interac machine and asked us to pay while we were still clearly eating! We had only been sitting for 30 minutes, and we were the only customers there (it was around noon on a weekday). There was no good reason to try to get rid of us in such a hurry. I found the service rude and lacking.

I may go back for the food, but I won't be expecting much in terms of service...

My wife and I recently visited Social Thai and while the food was decent, the service left a lot to be desired. We ordered the Thai curry and a croissant — the curry was just okay, tasting a bit like premade box curry, but the croissant was nicely shaped and fluffy, which we appreciated.

Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. Mid-meal, the server actually took my wife’s rice away and gave it to another table — which was shocking. When we mentioned it, there was some back and forth before we eventually had to order another serving of rice. It left a really bad impression and made the overall experience feel unwelcoming.

Good food can only go so far if the service is lacking. Not sure if we’ll be back...
