TLDR Not just Overhyped but a disappointment. I was every skeptical at first when I saw the menu & photos online, but then I found out the store was part of the grass roots restaurant group, I have gone to the avenue restaurant before and loved every part of it, the food don’t miss at avenue, but somehow at Dojo everything misses. The atmosphere was bland, the lighting was dark like in a bar, a bit crowd with the table spacing . The music was loud you can’t hear the specials. Waiter and service are nice.
On to the food review: Disclaimer I will only be critiquing the follow that we ordered, and yes, I saw pictures of the food before hand so I had a idea what I was ordering. Not a professional opinion, jus ta guy the likes food. And last This is just my opinion. This review will have spelling mistakes, I am dyslexic, and I don’t want to spend too much time editing this. Ordered items Spicy Raman, Shoyu Raman, Miso Raman, Red dragon Roll. 3 pc Fried Chicken, Karaage, Pork Steamed Buns.
Karaage was lightly season, the meat wasn’t juicy, I can see why they gave you so much mayo, for you to just dunk it for flavor Red dragon Roll was the daily special, it was ok nothing special but not worth the $18, can get it anywhere else for far less. Korean? Fried Chicken had ok crunch, besides that the meat was bland, it was heavy reliant on the sauce and that wasn’t even that good. I was told the Korean fried chicken don’t miss but this sure did. Pork steamed bun isn’t a pork steamed bun, its more like a pork belly taco with steam bun bread as the shell. Bland overall the bun had a nice fluff to it though. The Ramen ingredients was nothing special you have your standard noodle egg and toppings, the pork belly was thick and crispy on the outside, but flavorless on the inside. the most confusing part was the broth. The broth was all tonkatsu based with the add flavor of Spicy, Shoyu, and Miso which didn’t work at all in our opinion. -Shoyu which is a light ramen broth now mix with a rich heavy Tonkatsu broth made no sense. -Miso is a mix of tonkatsu, miso, and sesame oil, that felt like they hated being together. -Spicy is just Tonkatsu, Kimchi, and more spicy oil, both overpowered the other and the joy of pain you get from normal spicy food isn’t there. The broth is something that should be finished at the end of every good ramen meal, but I couldn’t with any of these, as much as I wanted to and get my moneys worth. I was happy when I heard a new ramen joint opened in Regina and now Wann has some competition but at the end of the meal, I was really disappointing I know they can do much better. Right now the food just isn't worth the price. Once again this just me and my...
Read moreAs a mother of a 1 year old, I rarely get to go out so when I do I expect the best haha especially for ladies night. Dojo Ramen did not disappoint! We had exceptional, professional, friendly, service from start to finish. We were warmly greeted at the door and brought to our table where we had a full view of the dining room and we loved it. The room was spotlessly clean (as well as the washrooms), and had a modern, minimalist kind of design with thoughtful pops of pieces like the bamboo light fixtures and the hanging wall plants. The lights were low and the music was just at the right level to get us feeling some type of way (boujee as heck haha) so we started to make our way through the cocktail list. All.of the cocktails were exciting and creative, but the feature cocktail of the nigbt was just WOW! A yuzu sake and tequila margarita with a salted nori rim. Strong and citrusy with that salty punch. Like I said WOW🤯. The ladies and I shared some plates, we had the pork belly steam buns, the feature tuna sashimi, the ebi mayo and the spider roll. Each time our server brought a plate out, our eyes would light up! The colours, flavours and textures of each dish was perfectly currated and if we weren't so focused on the cocktails, we definitely would have ordered more. The food was fresh and so, so tasty we will definitely be back. Thank you Fojo Ramen for making my night out worthwhile and memorable. 10 out of 10. Please Dojo, take my money and consider...
Read moreI recently revisited Dojo Ramen, a Japanese ramen restaurant that I once loved, but unfortunately, my second experience fell short of expectations. The first time I dined there, the ramen was hot and flavorful, with tender slices of pork that melted in my mouth. This time, however, the meal was quite a disappointment.
The biggest letdown was the broth. It arrived at the table lukewarm, lacking the comforting warmth I expect from a good bowl of ramen. This not only affected the flavors but also made the dish less enjoyable overall. The pork, which was once juicy and tender, had become dry and tough, missing the succulence that made me love it in the first place.
Additionally, I found myself having to request extra broth with each bowl. This might seem like a minor inconvenience, but it disrupted the dining experience, as I prefer to have a generous amount of broth from the beginning. It left me wondering if they had reduced the portions or if this was a new standard for them.
On a positive note, the appetizers remained consistently good. They retained their original taste, which was a relief amidst the disappointing ramen. However, given that the ramen is the star of the show, the decline in quality is hard to overlook.
Overall, while the appetizers are still worth trying, my enthusiasm for the ramen at Dojo Ramen has significantly dropped. I hope they can bring back the quality that initially drew me...
