Denny’s is known for its consistent, casual dining experience, but my recent visit to this Richmond location left me with mixed impressions. While some dishes met expectations, others, along with the service and ambiance, fell short.
Food:
• Zesty Nachos This dish featured crispy chips topped with pepper jack queso, cheddar cheese, seasoned nacho meat, pico de gallo, and sour cream. The portion size was adequate, with a generous amount of seasoned meat adding a savory richness. Overall, a satisfying appetizer that hit the right notes for flavor and texture.
Rating: 7/10
• Classic Sampler The sampler included fried chicken wings, onion rings, mozzarella cheese sticks, and wavy-cut fries. Unfortunately, the only standout here was the chicken wings, which were well-fried and flavorful. The onion rings, however, were disappointingly small and lacked crunch, and the mozzarella sticks and fries were underwhelming. The dish felt disjointed and didn’t deliver the variety expected from a sampler.
Rating: 3/10
• Bourbon Bacon Burger With aged white cheddar, bacon, sautéed mushrooms, fire-roasted bell peppers, onions, and bourbon sauce on a brioche bun, the Bourbon Bacon Burger had all the makings of a mouthwatering dish. Unfortunately, it looked better on the menu than it tasted. The burger was dry and severely under-seasoned, leaving the various toppings to try (and fail) to compensate for the lack of flavor in the patty itself.
Rating: 3/10
• Oven-Baked Lasagna This dish was the highlight of the evening. It featured a hearty combination of four cheeses and seasoned beef, wrapped in tender pasta and topped with a sausage and beef meat sauce, then finished with melted provolone cheese. The flavors were rich and satisfying, making it a comforting and filling option.
Rating: 7/10
Service:
The service started off well but quickly declined as the meal progressed. Our waitress was friendly and seemed genuine, but her lack of experience showed. She forgot to bring us water, and although I requested hash browns instead of fries with my burger, I ended up with an extra side of fries alongside our Classic Sampler. Additionally, I had to ask a different waitress just to get a refill on my iced tea. While the staff was pleasant, these service lapses impacted the overall experience. Rating: 3/10
Drinks:
• Chocolate Shake Thick and creamy, the chocolate shake was a satisfying indulgence that met expectations. Rating: Good • Iced Tea A refreshing and well-balanced drink, the iced tea was exactly what you’d want to complement a meal at Denny’s. Rating: Good
Ambiance:
The ambiance was underwhelming. While the chairs were comfortable and the space itself cozy, the moment we opened the menus, we noticed they were sticky and had a plastic insert inside. This detail, though minor, left a poor impression regarding the restaurant’s cleanliness and upkeep.
Price:
The pricing at Denny’s remains reasonable, making it an accessible option for casual dining. However, given the inconsistencies in food quality and service during this visit, the value proposition feels somewhat diminished.
Verdict:
Based on this experience, it might take a while before we return to this location. The inconsistencies in both food and service, combined with the lackluster ambiance, made for a less-than-ideal...

We accomplished goals that I never thought possible and thanks to him I'm passed the fitness exam with flying colours and medical exam and now sure I will get even if I don't I'm recommending to any person in police or military service including my military buddies some fo whom which I did the fitness exam with and likely will serve with in the near future. One day if I go in politics then I will come back to check to make sure this Denny's location survives through all the hardships that our country has faced in the 30 years I have been a Canadian citizen, I've been wanted to in military since 5, special forces since 13 and Prime Minister of Canada since 14 as I got 97 percent in my favorite high school teacher Mr. Jackson. He saw my unlimited potential from the beginning I a genius amongst his generation because my love of learning for geopolitics and human history in all it's complexities. I know I have a hard ardous journey ahead but that's to the unwavering support and courage of family and friends I transformed the stupid and cowardly boy into fierce warrior and intellectual whose leadership is supported by many because to look the helping the needs of everyone. We always share only if could work together I truly We can. Even I just go into military service for the reserves for the rest my life then I will support this particular Dennys by bringing my own ever growing entourage of friends and family to almost overwhelming Denny's location. Every single staff member has nothing but exceptional wonder and anything something went wrong even a slightly order it was always made right if not mood changing. If commitment dedication and perseverance are required for legendary strength endurance, and stamina feats then food is the cornerstone of all health improvement. You can never outrun a diet but over decades of business Denny's has been consistently the best diner chain, I really used to like IHOP much better but now that I have met the night time server and likely manager James I've had change my entire opinion. I also know James the cook who worked tireless for this Denny's location is an admirable because the only hard thing run than armies are countries and food is the cornerstone of society. You have no other necessity other food and water and still survive all over the world even in the harsh climates like the cold tundra of Antarctica or the brutal desert In any part of the world. For Canadian Army was once in the top 5 during World 2 yet falling to such a low point due the incompetent leadership for if country is ruined enough bad decisions. I knew the moment the Minister of the Defense was accused and stolen valor our country was in trouble or at least heading that direction. My younger brother literally calls me the older brother who capable of the impossible and many others said I would be a great politics which is only confirmed by some the best people I'll ever know because they rebuilt a broken man into kindest person all because it was for the greater good of his country...
Read moreTo be honest, I don't expect much from Denny's. We rarely eat at one - part the food is generally nothing special, part our kids often act like caged animals when we go out to eat at a restaurant.
Today because we're travelling and on a little family adventure, we went out for breakfast. We were late leaving the hotel, because getting us out the door is like herding cats, but once on our way everyone finally clued in to just HOW hungry they were.
When we arrived at Denny's we were already in a very tenuous situation. And, much to our ill-timed arrival, it was busy. Very busy.
To keep my one child from turning into the Hulk due to an increasing hangry rage and some sibling-on-sibling crime, we went for a little walk. On our walk we stumbled upon a little ND oasis of an isolated patio, occupied by no one. We went back to the front to inquire about sitting out there as it seemed to not be in use and likely not in anyone's section.
Readying ourselves for the standard "the computer says no", we were delightfully surprised when the hosteur, despite obviously being overwhelmed from the rush, made it happen.
Then enter the star of this review: Travis.
Travis, despite all the goings on, was upbeat, kind, and present with us every time he came to the table. Often during a meal rush time, when servers come to the table they are short, distracted, and practically throw your food at you. A smile nary to be seen.
Travis acknowledged our kids, spoke directly to them, and also joked with us. When he noticed it was going to be awhile for our food, he gave us a heads up and immediately became a team player in our own personal version of the Squid Games. Securing several plates of toast prior to our main meals arriving kept everyone in the game.
When my youngest insisted they will go to the bathroom on their own, despite being the age when would usually be accompanied, I spotted Travis through the window once again come to our family's rescue by not only directing them to the washroom, but keeping an eye on them to make sure they indeed did find it, sharing a congratulatory thumbs up.
While the food was pretty standard Denny"s fare, and the ambiance was that of a typical busy diner, our meals tasted all that much more delicious and our experience all that much closer to the "Perfect Family™️" outing without the overstimulated hangry meltdowns x 5... thanks to Travis.
If you want great service,...
