Day Jang Kum Korean Barbecue Restaurant
Address: 3088 St Edward Dr #109, Richmond, BC V6X 1N4
After craving authentic Korean cuisine, we decided to visit Day Jang Kum, a well-known Korean barbecue restaurant in Richmond. The location is convenient, and parking is readily available, which made our arrival hassle-free.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were promptly greeted by the hostess, who courteously inquired if we preferred a BBQ table to cook our own meal. Opting for the full Korean barbecue experience, I chose to cook for myself and my dining companion.
We were quickly seated, and within minutes, an array of traditional Korean side dishes, or banchan, was served. The selection was extensive, offering a variety of flavors and textures that perfectly complemented the main dishes. Each side dish was fresh, well-prepared, and added to the overall dining experience.
For our main course, we ordered the Combo Special “Jang,” which is designed for three people. This generous set included BBQ meats, seafood tofu soup, and seafood pancakes, offering a comprehensive sampling of Korean barbecue staples.
BBQ Meat:
The BBQ meats were well-marinated and cooked to perfection. The seasoning was balanced, enhancing the natural flavors of the meat without overpowering them. The portion sizes were generous and satisfying, making this a highlight of the meal.
Rating: 7/10
Seafood Tofu Soup:
The seafood tofu soup was outstanding. The broth was flavorful, with just the right amount of spice, creating a harmonious blend of heat and umami. The ingredients were fresh, and the portion size was ample, making this dish a standout.
Rating: 9/10
Seafood Pancake:
The seafood pancake was another strong offering. It was crisp and golden, with a delightful mixture of seafood inside. The accompanying dipping sauce was particularly addictive, providing a tangy and savory contrast to the pancake’s richness. The texture was perfectly crispy without being greasy, making this dish enjoyable from start to finish.

Service:
The service at Day Jang Kum was exemplary. Our waitress was attentive, ensuring that our needs were met throughout the meal. She checked in frequently but discreetly, allowing us to enjoy our dining experience without feeling rushed. The staff’s professionalism and warmth significantly enhanced our visit.
Rating: 9/10
Ambiance:
While the ambiance is slightly dated, it adds to the charm of the restaurant. The cozy, unpretentious environment makes for a relaxed dining experience. Despite the decor being a bit out of step with modern trends, the comfort and welcoming atmosphere more than compensate.

Read moreI had a great lunch here at Dai Jang Kum on a lazy day off. My brother usually frequents here for lunch. He told me the lunch special boxes are pretty decent. So why not, I gave it a shot.
First off the service was a bit slow to start but everything eventually caught up and we were even asked if we needed anything extra or refills and napkins. The gentleman who was bringing our food must had been really busy. We asked for the Korean side dishes, sweet potato, kimchi, seaweed, and sprouts. He said it's not included... It wasn't until another server came and said he's wrong it is included for free…
Our miso soups came along with it which is free. Alot of miscommunication. Our Korean boxes came and there's a good variety. The short ribs could've been darker and richer in marinade sauce and cooked longer. Food is good but nothing special for lunch. Perhaps dinner would be better. I would love to come back for dinner.
Plenty of parking all around if you’re worried about door dents. Affordable dining experience. Good food. It can get crazy busy here with a small...
Read moreStandard Korean restaurant located in East Richmond, just a block away from Costco Warehouse Richmond. They have family style meal and sets, good for korean bbq and their prices are fair but don’t expect high quality of food. I usually just order from their lunch menu or some of the soup noodles like Galbitang, or soodubu jjigae. My most recent experience here was not that great as the boss lady (I assume she was) had told our table of 12 people to change table after the kids and adults have settled down for 10 minutes, the reason was “If you are not doing BBQ, you will need to change table; this table is for BBQ only”. This is our first time getting asked to change table AFTER we had settled down and poured water for ourselves, they could have asked our group before they seat us. The only thing I will probably praise about is their large variety on their menu and their ability to accommodate a large group of customers on a weekend when it is difficult to find a place to...
