I definitely have to take a second to talk about the amazing staff and interior before I dive into the food review. There are 2 entrances, with one leading directly to the lounge/bar area with a high ceiling – perfect for large gatherings as they have some huge long tables to accommodate your party. There are also private rooms available. You go through this beautiful ringed tunnel which leads to the main dining area (which is also very very spacious). They also have an outdoor heated patio in the summer (not sure if this is open during the pandemic, as I dined in the main dining room). The women’s washroom is also massive, with a lounge area (complete with big couches and water fountain-like statue) next to the handwashing station. There are also mini TV’s in front of the men’s urinals cuz why not. The service was absolutely amazing, they were all very attentive, polite & courteous (shoutout to Andy and Rosie for the hospitality and very warm welcome!). Feel free to ask them for recommendations as they’re well educated about the dishes & drinks.
Now for the best part, the food:
Smoked Rib Eye 13 oz $47.95: ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. They smoke it in ~3 types of wood (maple, and I forgot the rest) and you can really taste it in the steak. I had it medium rare and it was soo juicy and flavourful. Lightly salted on top, and the skin is perfectly seared. The smoked flavour is what really makes this rib eye 10/10. I literally decided to purchase a $100 gift card right after the meal because of this mind-blowing steak, and wanted to share it with my friends & family. I was also informed that CHOP is committed to 100% Canadian sustainable beef sourcing (from sustainable ranchers), and are also the first national restaurant in Canada with a CRSB Certified Mass Balance mark on all of our beef.
Crab Cakes $16.50: 3 crunchy and super flavourful crab cakes, and the basil aioli dip on the side was super creamy and delicious as well.
Pistachio Crusted Cod $32.95: lemon tarragon cream, wild rice pilaf & fresh seasonal vegetables. The grilled/seared lemon is a game changer – make sure you squeeze it dry over your fish. Large portion of tender cod, and the slightly tangy cream keeps it from being too rich. Pistachio crust adds a very nice texture to the dish overall.
Sparkling Bellini (1oz) $8.75: sparkling wine, white peach purée, Chambord Royale, over ice. It did get a tad bit watered down at the end once the ice melts, so drink it up quickly. Pretty light and fruity drink that is...
Read moreMy fiance and I celebrated Valentine's and our 7th year anniversary over dinner last night. We can't get over the wonderful experience we had! I had made an online reservation weeks earlier indicating our anniversary. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a male hostess who warmly greeted us "Happy Anniversary". A female hostess, who also greeted us, then led us to our table. We were seated at a quiet, dimly lit, and more private area - further from the main dining area - which we appreciated.
As soon as we sat, our server William M., who goes by Will, greeted us with champagne to celebrate. What a lovely surprise! In addition to the complimentary bread they served, we ordered the mussels for appetizers which was so flavourful. My fiance had the prime rib and I had the Chop burger - both were juicy and delicious! We were ready for the bill, but Will surprised us again with a trio dessert that said "Happy Anniversary". We couldn't be more touched his kind gesture. The manager who helped us with our bill also greeted us for our anniversary - that's a total of four greetings during our stay! Lastly, I really appreciated how Will greeted us goodbye on our way out. Little things like that go a long way. Will's service last night was perfect - he was professional, very warm, and genuine.
Overall, this was the best dining experience my fiance and I have ever had. Oustanding service, perfect food, and value. To be honest, this was 100% better than our dining experience at Gotham Steakhouse who did nothing special to celebrate my fiance's birthday last year. Thank you so much, Chop Steakhouse, for celebrating with us, for honouring us, and for making us feel so special in spite of the busyness of Valentine's Day. It was truly a memorable night and I just have to share it...
Read moreMy cousin and I came here for dine out vancouver. It was my first time to dine here. She had dinner here 9 or 10 years ago. This restaurant still exists after 9-10 years. It means it’s very good!
Their dine out menu has a wide variety of the main dishes. I was happy to choose from 5 of their main dishes. I chose 9oz beef rib eye, Caesar salad for appetizer and a chocolate torte for dessert. My cousin chose a 7oz beef sirloin, soup of the day for appetizer and cheesecake for dessert.
We shared the food, so we could try them all. They were all good. Both the beef sirloin and ribs eye were very tender and juicy. The meat was not dry at all. Each of our main dishes also came with a lot of veggies which was great!! The portion of the Caesar salad was big! I ate a lot of veggies before eating the main dish haha the portion of the desserts was a bit smaller than I expected but that was totally fine because we felt very full after eating the appetizer and main dish.
We had to register our licence plate at the reception. Then we got three hours of free parking at the parking lot outside Sandman Hotel.
The customer service was great. Our server was very attentive and caring. He would also not disturbing us like other western restaurants. Sometimes I find that servers always drop by and ask “are you ok?” “How did you like the food?” And blah blah blah… it’s too much. I wanted to focus on eating and enjoying the meal with my friends or family.
The washroom was excellent! Great interior design. I don’t usually mention about washrooms in any of my reviews. The restaurant is connected with a bar on the other side because everything is connected with the hotel. I think it’s great if people choose to stay at Sandman hotel. They can dine out...
