On Monday, April 18, a group of six (6) of us went to (Harold's Bistro & Bar, 7551 Westminster Hwy., Richmond, B.C., Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel) for coffee, beer and snacks. We stayed there from 4:00 pm to approximately 5:30 pm. By the time we were going to leave, we were approached by the Manager, who informed us that, “this place is not a coffee shop, and it is not a meeting room. We are a restaurant, there is a minimum charge of $25.00 per person. We cannot allow people to meet here while we are serving happy hour.” And she said that she had informed us of that fact before. She said that we will not be charged this time, but would be in the future. We were surprised and upset since we had never been there before. If they want to apply this minimum charges, the waiter or waitress should have reminded us of the rules when we made our orders. There was no signage to show that there was a minimum charge of $25 per head. We questioned the manager where in the restaurant showed about this minimum charge? She said, “we are proceeding with it, and thanks for your advice.” We searched all over their menu, their website, and the entrance, no sign was seen anywhere. The restaurant has the right to setup whatever rules and charges they think is appropriate, but the restaurant has to make their customers aware of their rules and charges. Then the customer will decide whether or not they want to comply or not. “No meeting is allowed” sounds ridiculous to me. How could we guarantee that our gathering will not turn into a meeting. We were especially upset at the rude manner by which we were approached since we had just dropped by for coffee and a friendly conversation. Also embarrassing was that this conversation took place in front of other patrons. Sad to say that all of us were very upset with the above incident and will not return to the restaurant...
Read moreMy family was here (3 of us) on Friday evening April 17th.
I was looking for a patio option and decided to call Harold's Bar to inquire about availability. I spoke with Ani and right away she was very courteous in her tone. My family had been there previously to celebrate a birthday and we had a great experience with good impression of the customer service and food quality. However we did not know there was a patio.
We were completely blown away by the customer service and food once again. The dynamic team of Ani, Jo & Elsie plus the ambient beautiful setting of the outdoor patio made me realize restaurants located in a hotel is one of of the best kept secrets especially at a time where patio dining is a competition due to COVID-19.
Ani has charisma and natural comedic timing. Jo was able to bounce that energy from Ani to the rest of the diners and of course compliments to the chef Elsie. One of the best mashed potatoes if not the best I've ever tasted along with the meatloaf. The shanghai noodles and teriyaki bowl was also a highlight. Everything tasted good.
We will definitely be back here again in the future...
Read moreWe’ve had the pleasure of dining at Harold’s Kitchen & Bar (Harold’s Bistro & Bar) since 2015. Every experience has been outstanding. We are always impressed by the excellent food and service. Our go-to dish is the Alaskan Black Cod. We were heartbroken that after the labour strike, it was removed from the menu. We had a chance to talk to Ruby Franco, one of the Restaurant Managers, that our favorite dish was taken off the menu. She listened to our concern. The next time we dined there, the Alaskan Black Cod was back on the Menu. We were so happy. Ruby’s warmth hospitality, paired with Jimmy’s impeccable service, make every visit a truly unforgettable experience. Every time we dine at Harold’s and if Ruby is working, she will personally visit our table and make sure everything is good. Her warm presence always makes us feel welcome as a family member and Jimmy’s service along with Angela Najera, chef Jerome Pascua, Lerisa, Robyn and Sandra are icing on the cake making our dining experience...
