Sometimes you go to a place because it serves you food you remember and loved from your childhood. For me growing up it was hot dogs and crispy Tex Mex Tacos. It always seemed that when I was in Richmond, I would endeavour with a perchance that I could entice my mother into getting me one or the other. Back when Richmond Centre had a theatre outside next to the mall I'd get my hot dog from Orange Julius. But that was then. And why am I talking about Hotdogs? Well, my number two favourite fast food was Tacos, the Tex-Mex kind. Decades later after the Lansdowne mall opened the popped up a wee taco joint in the food court. Whenever I had the chance, I'd go there first to get my crispy tacos. It was affordable and tasty. The way that this location did their taco shells was better than that yee Old El Paso versions you could have at home. I think they actually fry theirs fresh ( meaning Taco Luis). It has been run by this cool Vietnamese dude and I'd see him working with his diligent staff doing what they do, very well. I even saw him on the news about him and his business. Kinda like a feature spot on small businesses doing well and getting recognition for their feats. Because of all of those things above and whenever I'm in this malls foodcourt. I always sneak in those tacos. Funnily enough I haven't had their items offered. It's always those tacos. Amazingly how well childhood memories of this kind of dish gravitates me to want to consume only those and the rest ate simply ignored due to my tunnel vision of crispy delight wanting to be devoured. After that, if I'm still hungry I'll try one of the other vendors. And as usual, meaning to take a foodie pic, I end up eating it before I think of taking the pic. Deciding that meh, just enjoy the flavour experience and memories of a kid begging mother while pulling her pant leg for either a...
Read moreWe were hoping to try out a 5 star Mexican restaurant in Vancouver for Cinco de Mayo Day but heavy traffic thwarted our plans. Ended up at the food court in Lansdowne Centre and got our Mexican fix at Taco Luis. I usually just order their tater tots for a snack; as I wanted a full meal this time, I decided to try the Tater Tots Deluxe combo meal. They put rice, beans, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, peppers, cheese, sour cream and salsa on top. I had the option of putting guacamole on top as well but I decided to pass on it as I was quite happy with the mound of food piled on top of my tater tots already.
I really don't care whether it's authentic Mexican food, I only care that it tastes good. I've always loved the tater tots at Taco Luis, and now that I've tried their Tater Tots Deluxe I think I've just found my new "go to" meal at that food court!
There are plenty of other options as well if you're in the mood for something other than tater tots. Burritos, Tacos, Soft Tacos, Taco Salads...etc. My husband ordered a 12 " beef burrito combo and my daughter ordered a 10 " chicken burrito combo. (Didn't get any photos of their meals. Was too impatient to start eating the Deluxe meal sitting in front of me!)

Read moreUndersized 10”special!! Ive been going to this place since 2008 and i was really disappointed with my last visit…taste?..still the same from years ago and same good quality but quantity is where things get ugly! I know everything under the sun went up in price and so did their prices but they dont make the 10inch burritos like they used to,i actually complained about the size of the burrito but the lady said..”that is a 10inch burrito even though it was more like a 6inch in length and felt a lot lighter too..taco luis used to draw crowds due to the good price, quality and bang for the buck but not anymore, taco luis just lost a loyal customer due to the fact that the lady just casually smiled when i complained..so if your expecting a 10inch burrito you might get a 10 square inch one...
