Respectfully waited at entrance for 7mins or so. 615pm on this past Tuesday night. Indoor seating completely empty. 2 bartenders chatting at main bar, saw us at inside host station...which clearly indicated "Wait to be seated". They advised us to choose a seat anywhere outside? We chose a seat center front row to exterior glass fence, best sightline to center of village, entertainment playing at main stage...a couple to the left actively chatting with the male server. The table & chairs were not super clean, wiped; but better than others/but cleared and visibly open for service. A table being served right behind us. We waited for roughly 15 minutes, while reviewing the "scan" style menus. 1 Waiter was present & active to couple on our left twice during our waiting....discussing stuff at the village & billing them out. Another server providing assistance to table behind us, great with kids. 4 other service staff around the patio, clearing tables or providing service. Other tables being self sat. Service was given or guests atleast acknowledged. We patiently waited another 5minutes...to see if even a "hello, we will be right there" would be offered. Nothing. 6 active tables, 3 billing or billed out. Not 1 server seemed overloaded or rushed. We could see several gathered at bar.
We exited out off the patio once we understood we were clearly not getting service.
My husband & I are bi-annual visitors to the village. We have had some really great experiences at the pub in the past. We were disappointed to not get any service. We did get to enjoyed the waterside deck at Kaytoo.
**Please note: We are owners of a year round 150 seat restaurant in cottage country. 3 locations over 10 years. With over 30 years of service & restaurant operational background and fully understand how challenging it can be to always provide a quality experience.
We hope this review finds its way to management and can be used as a step in reviewing some needed areas of improvement. We wish you continued improvement & success.
Hopefully, when we return in a couple of months improvements will have be made & we can have the opportunity to enjoy this cool...
Read moreIt was my first time at Blue Mountain to celebrate my cousins birthday. We decided to give MJ Bryne’s a try and it was a bad decision. We got sat around 1PM and there was about 5 tables total both outside and inside. With such a small number of diners during what i would consider as peak hours during a Sunday, you would expect to receive great service. Unfortunately that was not that case.
When we ordered, the order was not inputted correctly. We asked for a few substitutes which were not properly accommodated, we ordered chicken tenders but she inputted thai bites instead, I ordered a burger and poutine as the very first order but received it last when everyone in my group was half way through eating.
The food was also incredibly bland. Not a single dish had flavour and the food was at least 20 dollars a dish.
In addition, since our group was over 6, there was an automatic service charge of 18% which is very standard across most establishments. The problem lies with the service that our server, Sarah, provided. When you automatically charge an 18% service charge, the LEAST you can do is provide decent service and be welcoming. Our service was non existence and she did not look like she wanted to be there. The only thing that was provided was a stack of cutlery at the end of the table for us to pass down and water was refilled once while we were sitting under the sun and heat. When it came time for the bill, she could not even split the check properly. I get it, people make mistakes. If you mess up the first time that’s fine but do something about it so you don’t mess it up a second time when you have shown how incapable you are.
Do not assume that because you have a guaranteed service charge you can do nothing. You should still work to show that you have earned it. What you did yesterday showed that you did not deserve it. Do better MJ Byrne....
Read moreFriday Afternoon- We had a different experience this past weekend at MJ Byrnes Irish Pub. We decided to enjoy the Muskoka chairs view front of the village, opting not to use the regular table seating. Upon arriving, we noticed two waitresses on their phones, three others busy attending to tables, and one busy bartender. The musician was great, adding a nice ambiance to the setting. We grabbed a menu from the bartender while waiting to be escorted to our seats.
Upon arrival, our waitress, Pippa G, seemed attentive. However, the experience took a turn when my husband cut his lip, which bled, thankfully I had wet wipes on me. This occurred on a broken glass while he was drinking a Harp. We brought it to Pippa G's attention, and she seemed to acknowledge it but kind of brushed it off. We ordered food; the potato skins were incredible, but the onion rings were so hard we could have used them as a frisbee. Thank God for the vinegar to make them a bit softer but not much.
Upon sitting down, we saw glassware and plates on the ground. Two other parties joined the seating area, and each couple had a dog, which was awesome and led to great conversation. However, there were broken glasses, broken people's nails, and clumps of hair on the patio. We mentioned this to Pippa G, and she did a quick sweep.
Pippa G was a very confident waitress; however, the issue with the broken beer glass and the overall unsafe area was significant. There was broken glass everywhere, which should have been acknowledged by a manager, and at least a free beer or a small discount should have been offered!
I would return to MJ Byrnes Irish Pub, but I would definitely be cautious about where I sit. This situation could have been a lot worse, especially if it had been a child who picked up that broken glass. I have photos, but out of respect, I will...
