Canton Chilli, nestled in the heart of Chinatown, is a culinary refuge for anyone seeking warmth and comfort. On a particularly frigid evening, after an exhausting search for a functional RBC debit machine, I found myself wandering the bustling streets of Chinatown, defeated and chilled to the bone. In my aimless roaming, Canton Chilli appeared like an oasis of light and warmth amidst the chaos.
Inside, the restaurant radiates a welcoming simplicity. Pop music plays softly over the hum of sizzling woks, and the air is filled with the unmistakable aroma of garlic, ginger, and soy. I ordered the chicken sweet corn soup for $9.95 and a complimentary spring roll, unaware I was about to experience pure culinary comfort.
The spring roll was a revelation. Its golden, crispy exterior shattered with the perfect crunch, revealing an umami-rich vegetable filling that was earthy and satisfying. It wasn’t just a starter; it was a promise of the meal to come.
The chicken sweet corn soup arrived steaming and fragrant. Each spoonful offered tender shreds of chicken and bursts of sweet corn suspended in a creamy, golden broth. The subtle seasoning, with a gentle kick of white pepper, elevated it beyond ordinary comfort food—it was restorative, like a warm hug in a bowl, evoking memories of home and care.
Canton Chilli also excels in family-style dining. Their special family dinners, ranging from two to four items, provide a perfect balance of variety and value, making them ideal for any gathering. Dishes like General Tso’s chicken, shrimps with mixed vegetables, Manchurian-style hake chow mein, and their iconic vegetarian spring rolls cater to every palate, from the adventurous eater to the traditionalist.
In a city known for its fast pace, Canton Chilli offers a moment of pause—a place to share a meal, connect with loved ones, or simply find solace after a long day. For me, it was not just a meal but a lifeline on a cold night, proof that comfort and kindness can be found in the unlikeliest of places. Canton Chilli is more than a restaurant; it’s a reminder that food, at its best, is both nourishment...
Read moreI recently dined at a this restaurant and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. I ordered calamari, spicy fried wings, and Szechuan-style fried rice, expecting a delightful meal. However, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment. The calamari wings portion was shockingly minuscule, leaving me feeling shortchanged. To make matters worse, the staff's behavior was rude and unhelpful. Instead of providing clear pricing information, they presented us with a misleading menu. Upon receiving the bill totaling $34 for what should have been a modest order, my frustration escalated.
The most concerning part was their deceptive approach to pricing. They displayed one menu to lure us in but took our order from a different, higher-priced menu. When we confronted the staff about this glaring inconsistency, they brushed it off and explained that the menu we had seen was for small quantities, while the one they used for ordering was for larger portions. This dishonesty left a sour taste in my mouth.
It's disheartening to encounter such practices that undermine customer trust. The blatant discrepancy between the advertised menu and the actual order, combined with the rudeness of the staff, paints a distressing picture of the restaurant's integrity and commitment to quality service. I would caution others against dining here, as my experience was marred by not only the disappointingly scant portion of calamari but also the lack of transparency and respect for customer.
Last but not least there is this one particular senior guy works there at the front desk. He's the one who is luring us into all the s*. I was presented by the payment kiosk with the bill already added with the service charge which means tip. But then I saw on the screen option to select the tip. Imagine how pathetic this can be.
If you are drunk, just let that one sober guy in our gang to take care...
Read moreThis place is an absolute scam. Don't give them a single dollar of your hard earned money. I don't normally write reviews but I don't recommend anyone to support a business as shady as this one.
Basically I ordered food on UberEats and the app was glitching as I was adding items to the cart. It would not update my cart so I kept adding the items again repeatedly to no avail. So I accepted the order and the total which was clearly displayed in the cart and when it was confirmed my total was significantly higher ($92.00) than what I expected. It was obviously a glitch in the app. I called the restaurant within seconds of seeing that and the guy on the phone told me it was too late the order was prepared. I said how can the 8 items be prepared already its been seconds since I placed the order and he essentially said yes its prepared too bad and hung up the phone. That should tell you about the quality ready-made food they service and the horrenous customer service.
I immediately called Uber customer service and they called the restaurant and he said the same thing. I was essentially forced to pay the amount because he didn't want to cancel the order essentially to screw me. The worst part is when I received the food they stapled the receipt and the time is clearly printed on there. He hadn't even inputted my order into the computer the time I had called to cancel so literally they just wanted to screw me.
They are crooks and frankly rude. Save your money there are much better options...
