It was a very frustrating and chaotic experience yesterday with Flavors Of Kolkata. In a nutshell, do not waste your time and money on this joint.
Now coming to the details, yesterday my wife suggested we try this place as she was carving some authentic Bengali food and found this place. At around 8:10 pm, we placed a pick up order of 2 Egg Chicken Rolls from Uber Eats. We also wanted to try some Fish Kabiraji, but it was not showing up on the Uber eats app menu. So we decided to order that in person when we arrive at the pick up place. I noticed that the Egg Chicken Roll was marked as Ready for Pick up very quickly (may be in 5 minutes) in ubereats app. This seemed a little odd, but I assumed that the food might indeed be ready.
The nightmare started when we arrived at the location. First of all, it is not a regular restaurant, rather more of a cloud kitchen take out place. It is difficult to find the place as the store front did not have the name "Flavors Of Kolkata" - rather it is marked as "Junction Food Co". This is not a problem as such - it's just a lack of transparency and spreading awareness to confuse less knowledgeable customers like myself. It's just difficult to understand from outside that this is the place to pick up the order from.
When I entered the place, I saw quite a few folks waiting for their food. I quickly placed and order for Fish Kabiraji from the automated ordering station in that place and then followed up on my Egg Chicken Roll order. Here I got to know from the attendant that they did not have my order ready. Rather they don't have chicken for the Roll, so they can't make it. When asked for alternative, he mentioned that they can make egg roll instead. Also he added that he is the attendant for all the 4-5 take out joints served from that place, so he is not the primary contact for 'Flavors OF Kolkata'. He also added that the owner of the Flavors of Kolkata is attending some event and he is not picking up the call (we also tried calling and no response). There is a person cooking there and that person does not know how to prepare all the items in listed in the menu. Others waiting for their food from Flavors Of Kolkata also had similar frustrating experience - orders misplaced, ordered item not available, proper substitution not available and no one to talk to regarding refunds. I agreed to get the Egg Rolls instead. And the attendant went inside to inform this.
Then I waited for around an hour to get the Egg Rolls. I enquired about the Fish Kabiraji and he suggested that we return with no food as the person in charge cannot make this food now. We can contact the owner later for refund.
I came home with partial food wasting so much time and energy and ruining our festive mood. I was so disheartened to see the mismanagement here. I obviously placed a complain with Uber Eats and one with Junction Food hoping for partial and full refund...
Read more🚨 Serious Breach of Contract & Food Safety Concerns – Flavours of Kolkata (NABC 2025) 🚨 We hired Flavours of Kolkata to cater for over 4,000 guests at NABC 2025, and what was supposed to be a highlight of the event turned into a complete disaster. Here’s a breakdown of the issues we faced: Food Safety Hazards: Raw chicken was served at dinner, putting attendees at risk. Cockroaches were found in the daal, and the food was spoiled. Multiple complaints came in from guests, especially the elderly, from both Canada and the USA, raising serious health concerns. Food Shortages: Despite a clear contract to provide meals for all guests, portions were abysmally small. Requests for more food were denied, resulting in unnecessary shortages and dissatisfaction, especially for those who had pre-purchased food coupons. Failure to Meet Contractual Obligations: Only dinner was provided on the 4th of July, and just 500 breakfast servings on the 5th of July. The vendor failed to provide lunch and dinner on the 5th and 6th, as agreed upon in the contract, and stopped responding to all communication. Non-Responsive After Payment: A $60,000 advance was paid to the vendor, yet after the first day, they stopped answering calls and completely abandoned their responsibilities. Last-Minute Emergency: Due to the vendor’s negligence, we were forced to arrange food from a different vendor at a premium cost, causing significant inconvenience, loss of credibility, and revenue. What’s worse, instead of accepting responsibility, the owner falsely claimed that we had refused to pay and that they had donated the food to the homeless. This is completely false—the reality is that they failed to deliver on a paid contract, and we have photographic evidence (including the raw chicken) to back up our claims. We strongly advise anyone in the community considering this caterer to think twice. Food safety and professionalism should never be compromised, especially when catering to such a large group of people. Please proceed with caution when selecting vendors for...
Read more🚨 NABC 2025 (4th–6th July, Metro Toronto Convention Centre) –Breach of Contract & Failure to Comply with Food Safety by Flavors of Kolkata 🚨
We hired Flavors of Kolkata to provide food for over 4,000 guests at NABC. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing and unsafe. Food Safety Issues – Raw chicken was served during dinner, cockroaches were found in daal, and the food tasted spoilt. This raised serious health concerns and we had complaints from elderly people both from Canada & USA. Food Shortages – Despite being contracted to provide adequate meals for overseas Artists and NABC audiences who had already pre-purchased food coupons, the vendor served very small portions, denied requests for more food, and created unnecessary shortages. Failure to Deliver Contracted Services – The supplier only provided dinner for 800 heads instead of 4000 on 4th July and 500 breakfast on 5th July, then stopped responding to all calls. He was contractually obligated to serve lunch and dinner for the following two days i.e. 5th & 6th July but completely failed to do so. Advance Payment & Non-Response – He had already taken an advance of $60,000, yet after the first day he never picked up our calls and abandoned his responsibilities. Last-Minute Emergency – Due to his negligence, we had to urgently arrange food from another vendor at great difficulty and expense to ensure our guests were fed and we paid premium amount, thereby losing credibility and loss of revenue as well. To make matters worse, instead of taking accountability, the owner spread false rumors claiming we refused to pay and that they had to donate the food to the homeless. This is entirely false and unsubstantiated — the reality is that he failed to deliver on a paid contract. We strongly caution anyone considering this caterer for any event in the community. Food safety and professionalism should never be compromised, especially when serving thousands of people. We have photographic evidence (including the raw chicken served) to support...
