Escape The Ghost Ship — Local services in Toronto

I went last night for the Escape The Ghost Ship. I went with four friends, and they joined another group of two with us. They were great and we had a lot of fun.

We were out on the water for an hour. A short theatrical segment to explain the story of what we're doing, then to the puzzles! We had two teams on board, racing to see who could figure out the puzzles first.

I have done one other escape room, but have played a lot of puzzle games and escape room type simulators. These puzzles were really well done, we knew what we needed to do to figure them out without assistance, but they were still challenging enough that it took us time (and paper for notes). I was impressed by the number of different puzzles put into this production, and how each of them are a different type of puzzle for great variety.

We finished literally as the countdown timer was counting down, but the other team on the boat finished well before us. It was just the right amount of challenge for me, without the sense of being unsolvable.

The scenery around the lake is gorgeous as always, though I didn't spend as much time looking off the boat as I did paying attention...

This place set us up big time - be warned! My friends and I - 11 of us total- booked about 2 weeks in advance for a birthday party and less than 3 hours before the start of the game, they called to tell us that they have to cancel our booking because there was some “glitch” in the system and there is another event happening. Left us scrambling last minute with zero recourse to find an alternative - pretty challenging with 11 people to organize.

Even after writing an email the next day asking for additional compensation, like free tickets, they made it seem like giving us a refund in this situation was some grand gesture, and refused to provide any other compensation to make up for their large blunder that inconvenienced us. Captain Kelly is terrific! We had the entire boat with our small group of 5 -- can't comment on the experience when there are 2 or 3 groups.

It's true that it is not a traditional escape room as each puzzle is mostly independent of the others. The benefit of this is that there is no bottleneck and if you are stuck on a puzzle you can try to help your friend with something else.

We found all of the puzzles challenging but fair, and quite rewarding to figure out.

The vibes are amazing for the 2130 show because it is dark, but definitely dress for the weather!
