I went there when they opened & ordered doubles. The owner is nice, he tries to be cordial to customers. I stood by the counter waiting on my order. It was very tasty. Next time I went there I ordered the same: (2 doubles so 4 pieces) & since there was lots of people, I waited by the other side where they prepare the orders. It’s open counter so you can see everything. I was shocked to see the older lady preparing my doubles with bare hands, she didn’t even wash her hands prior. Mind you the filling is liquidy so the more reason to wear gloves. In prepping the doubles, she has to press the filling in between the doubles,so seeing her doing this with bare hands made my skin crawl. I patiently waited for her to finish my order & when she came to hand it over to me, I leaned over the counter& whispered why she didn’t wear gloves, I was very polite & didn’t want the rest of the customers to hear. She rudely said & I quote: “we don’t wear gloves here or wash hands” and walked away from me! I took the order but I didn’t eat it. I don’t like to waste food but since I already saw what I saw, I couldn’t bring myself to eat it. I thought to myself the first time I ate it because I didn’t ‘see’ the preparation. Since then I have never gone back there. Mind you, they are next to the dollar store so they could buy kitchen gloves for a few Pennie’s but hey.. I go to normal Timmy’s, a&w or macd’s & I request them to wear gloves prior to making my order & they do so willingly. You can’t be mad if some of us don’t want to promote local...

Was looking for a roti place on Door Dash and this one had the highest rating amongst others, so I thought I’d give it a try. Ordered one boneless chicken roti with spinach to share as well as some doubles. Roti not as big as most I’ve had, but it made up for it in flavour! The curry was OUTSTANDING! The spinach so green and fresh, lots of tender chicken with potatoes in curry sauce. The doubles were also very good but didn’t travel as well as it was not piping hot. I will definitely order again, and not share my roti! Can’t wait to try other things on the menu. Update: ordered more rotis the next day, the chicken again plus the beef. Both very tasty but wish the temperature of both curries cold be hotter. Still very happy as it was delicious, my favourite still being the boneless chicken. Update 2: third time this week to order, this time at beginning of day. What a difference compared to the previous two times when it was just before closing. Though those two previous rotis were good, the one from this morning was so fresh, and arrived hot. Island Foods will definitely be my go-to roti place when the craving strikes. Utterly delicious, though note that medium is really milder and extra hot isn’t extra hot when ordering. So happy to have found this place that is...

Been eating Island Foods for over two decades. So happy to have them back in the neighborhood and I try to support them often BUT.....the service model is outdated and I am certain they could increase their sales by 2X or 3X if they would allow customers to order in advance using Ritual or a similar service to pick up their food. EVERY TIME I order food it's 25 to 35 minutes for 2 rotis and 2 patties. I often don't have that much time to wait. The service is way too slow. They definitely need more staff but they also need to allow reduce the wait time for food. It's simple, use the tools available to provide your customers with convenience, we will pay for it.

Now let's get to the food, it's not as flavourful as the original spot or the Markham location. The food inside the rotis were cold and insufficiently spiced leaving it all quite bland. Don't get me wrong, it's still pretty decent Caribbean food in the area but it ain't what it used to be.

I hope that they stick around but sooner or later people won't have 30 minutes to wait for their meals and will just go elsewhere; as we have done a number of times because we cannot order in advance...

I was so sad and disappointed when their King West location closed. Thankfully they opened another location in Queen West which is newer, cleaner and brighter. The food is a different story though, not the same as it used to be. The Boneless Chicken Roti was overcooked making the chicken dry and rubbery. There's not a lot of curried sauce inside the roti so you have to clearly tell them to put additional sauce. Spice level is also non-existent, even though you say medium there's no spice at all. Doubles (though not as good as ACR) are okay but smaller in size. You need two or more of these doubles in order to be filled up. Long lineups during lunch time so I try to come after two pm. During this time your order comes in fast, ready in five mins or less. Friendly and delightful service. Would probably still come back despite above inconsistent food quality since there's not a lot of authentic Trinidadian Roti in downtown Toronto.

Moving eastward on Queen West, the summer day was declining, and I needed a drink. Island Foods was there offering "A taste of life under the sun." The famous Jamaican soda "Ting" caught my eye: sweet and tart, pétillante et plaisante. ("If it ain't Ting, it ain't the real thing.") There were a lot of people in the restaurant, and the service was quick and efficient. With a grapefruit Ting soda in hand (the green one), I moved on to complete the next leg of my journey. Looking forward to coming back and trying the boneless goat roti. P.S. Making the trek back to Queen West on a cool autumn evening, my dear friend and I both enjoyed the boneless goat roti. The goat was tender, great cuts of meat, and the roti flatbread was tasty with a pleasing stretchy consistency. Really, really good.
