Kathy's Grill — Restaurant in Toronto

Got the homemade burger with cheese. I have to honestly say this is the best burger I’ve had in Toronto so far. It’s a pretty straight burger, but the flavour of their beef is incredible. I would definitely come back here for the burger alone.

The reason I’m giving a four star is because I also got the chicken souvlaki dinner. Now, this souvlaki dinner is not everything that is cracked up to be as all these other reviews say it is. Firstly, Greek salad was good, no complaints. However, from a texture standpoint and how the other items are cooked, I will admit the chicken and the rice and the potatoes are cooked perfectly. Everything is tender. However, the problem is that the rice has zero flavour, the potatoes have zero flavour, and the tzatziki lacks taste to the point where it tastes more on the yogurt side (a little bland) versus having a slight creamy garlic taste that it needs to have, like it does with all the other Greek fast food spots I’ve gone to in Toronto. Some salt in the rice and potatoes will go long way, and the tzatziki needs more flavour.

All in all, I would definitely come back here and have the burger again. And next time I’ll try some of the other options and see how they stack up. But I would not get the chicken souvlaki again.

Hopefully ownership sees this and raises the flavour in their chicken Slovakia dinner, because I would truly like to see them do well.

PS. If ownership wants to comment on this post, I will give them the name of the fast food place that is close by, that serves an amazing chicken souvlaki, and if they can learn to match that taste, then Kathy’s Grill will be impeccable. And if comment, then I will be happy to call in and let them know where they can do the taste comparison on the tzatziki and rice...

After reading so much about this place on Yelp, I was so excited to try it out for myself.

I decided to go with the standard Chicken Souvlaki Plate, but I got with fries, and I'm so glad I did. They were so fresh and had just the right amount of crispiness on the outside & fluffiness on the inside.

One thing I would definitely recommend is getting their gravy, its SO GOOD! It's full of flavor, and thick too ( unlike most other places who water it down)

STANDOUTS: The Souvlaki itself was made to order, it tasted super fresh and moist. The customer service was also so lovely! I had the chance to meet the famous Kathy herself during my visit, and she was so pleasant to talk to. The price point and value for money is also great! You get a such a large portion of food for a really good price.

DRAWBACKS: The reason this place gets a 3 Star from me is for a few reasons,

The Salad dressing was a bit too thin for my taste ( tasted like it was simply lemon juice and oil )

Tzatiki was pretty good, but not amazing, personally I like when there is shredded cucumber in it. This one was very white, thick & garlicky.

I wish they offered a veggie plate, something like the Souvlaki Plate without the meat. Even just having a plate with Rice, Potatoes & Salad would be great.

the food is fantastic. this goes without saying. but the staff and the lack of efficiency is absurd. this is the second time i’ve called ahead, and still been forced to wait 40 minutes for my order. the girl working at the end packing the food today pushed my order to the side, went “what am i waiting for here?” and then proceeded to pack 5 different orders while mine continued to get cold on the side. honestly i can’t even defend this place anymore. yes the food is good but what is the point if i have to drive all the way here, and wait 30 minutes despite having ALREADY called ahead. if i spent another minute of my life watching the disaster that is the method of service in this establishment i will have high blood pressure. quite literally the most ridiculous method of taking orders and completing them. everyone is doing everything and they are consistently getting the orders wrong. first step of action for kathy’s is to fire that girl who was packing the food today. in the 40 minutes i spent waiting, she got multiple orders wrong, called for the wrong food, touched receipts, money, and then food with no gloves or washing hands between. i didn’t catch her name but she needs to be dealt with....
