I had planned to dine at the original location in Calgary but mismanaged time during my across Western Canada road trip so finding Lulu with a location on Toronto at The Well was delightful!
It’s been a long time since I had fantastic service paired with fantastic food.
I took advantage of their daily happy hour 3-6pm where ALL drinks are 1/2 off and discounts on bites. We went here after a Mirvish production and it is a 15 minute walk from the Royal Alexandra Theatre 🎭 with a 8 yo. (mother&daughter date)
Service 5 ⭐️ There are two levels and we were seated on the second level where there is elevator to ascend and the hosts and hostesses set the the tone for fabulous and clockwork service. There were people in tiki shirts and those in black shirts and they all helped out each other. From what I gather, tiki shirts are the bartenders and also wait. Black shirts wait and are runners. When food is placed out from the kitchen, it seemed that whomever was available brought the food to the table and introduced ingredients of each dish. This ensured food was served how it was meant to be. Bravo! Side note of appreciation: My child being a child blew out the candle at our table as soon as we arrived and a runner passing by noticed and had initiative to relight it no questions asked.
Drinks 🍹 🍺 🥤 🥥 Ordered the nine lives, milk and honey, and my LO had zero proof coconut cooler. I am not fond of drinks on the sweet side (yes I know I’m at luau bar) but my waiter (in a tiki shirt) assured me it would not disappoint and they were bang on the buck with well balanced drinks.
Food 5 ⭐️ . Ordered: ✔️ Salt&Pepper Pork belly- a bit salty for my liking but paired well with drinks and my LO gobbled this ✔️ Homemade SPAM skewers ✔️hot dog bao- you must order this. Soft pillows hug an in-house made hotdog. I savoured every bite so much I even placed… ✔️beef tongue skewers in the bao. Comes in set of two and are tender and exactly how it shone cooked ✔️kale 🥗 salad -must order- I won’t ruin the surprise ✔️burger- delicious and juicy. Take note it has a slice of the their homemade SPAM. Make sure you leave room for dessert and do not leave without ordering…
Dessert 5 🌟 If you think you’re full…trust me you have room and will enjoy every bite of ✅ The Baked Hula 🤤
Overall this EXCEEDED my expectations and I’m excited to return many times (when possible) to try other...
Read moreThis is OUTSIDE the mall, you'll never find it walking inside. The easiest way to find it is to walk along Wellington St - it's midway between the parking garage and the condo entrance, opposite the old Spotify location. If entering from the mall instead, find Frank & Oak and Structube on UG (street level) then exit the mall (north, towards Wellington St) by walking directly between them.
Food wise.. it's ok. SO had chili fried chicken, which had very little chili flavour but was topped with raw beansprouts for some reason, and placed on a bed of white rice .
$34 for Summerlicious was a fair price, but I was expecting better. Cocktails are a bit expensive ($19) compared to other nearby locations, but a bit larger than usual (2.25oz+). The alcohol free Coconut Cooler (pink lemonade and coconut) was good, but all we could taste in the Mai Tai was dark rum - this probably means it was a generous pour, but it would have been nice to have some fruit flavours come through.
The veggie starter & main for Summerlicious were both salads. The main menu has 4 veggie items - 2 salads, mushrooms, and potatoes. Plus chips & dip, edadame, and a fried egg in the "snacks" section.
Server was very grumpy, I think he was covering someone else who arrived late as our section got a new server partway through whilst he continued working in the adjacent one. We had 5 people (our old server, our new server, another server, a manager, and the bartender who was bussing tables at the time) come over to ask how the food was all within a few minutes of each other. I appreciate being checked in on but that was too much!
Most indoor seating is upstairs, with the only access being an elevator in which you're accompanied by a hostess. There's a large hedged patio downstairs which is set well back from the road (which itself is pretty quiet), so probably a nice location to enjoy Happy Hour (half price...

From poor time management of seating, to nonexistent, lackadaisical dining room service and its questionable food, Lulu Bar leaves a lot to be desired, and the experience grades as one of my worst Summerlicious/Winterlicious experiences.
Arrived for an 8 pm reservation, only to be informed that it will be 15 minutes for our table to be ready. The wonton dip was the highlight, yet, even that was tainted, as we found a small piece of plastic in it (shown to our server). Management apologized profusely, but the waitstaff’s apathetic response soured an already disappointing start to the evening. Waitress neglected to ask how we would like our steaks prepared. Served lukewarm, not hot. The steak sauce was doused with black pepper, to the point where it was spicy! Was this to compensate for lack of quality in food? Our entire table of six ordered the steak as the main course, yet, all left unsatisfied. Half of us got medium rare, while others got well-done. A lack of consistency. Again, we were not asked how we wanted our steaks done - a surprising first for me. Steak knives came out five minutes after we were using the cutlery provided to us - butter knives. I was already three pieces in. Waitstaff would serve our food then proceed to perform a disappearing act for 30 minutes until the following dish was prepared and ready to go out. Chicken satay was tender but lacked flavour. It has much potential, but ultimately falls flat. Coconut cake was decent, but you’re not paying $60 for a decent dessert.
Overall, after attending more than two dozen Summerlicious/Winterlicious options across the city, I can confidently say that this ranks as a bottom-two experience of mine.
4.6/10 (and surprisingly, this was the highest score offered by my group on...
